At the TJ Maxx/Homegoods store I used to work out, we literally could not keep the furniture stocked fast enough. It would fly off the floor. Same with huge area rugs and lamps. We would sell anywhere from 12-15 area rugs a day, easily. Weekends much more than that.

We had some nice wood flooring installed, so naturally we had to go buy rugs to cover it all up. My wife went to every Homegoods in the area hunting for a specific rug. I could not believe how many were being sold. Every time we set foot in the store there was somebody buying at least an 8'x10'.

We ended up buying three. I never want to set foot in a Homegoods again.

I always had a grudge against hotmail. Before Microsoft acquired it in the late 90's, the only thing that came from them was porn spam.

Up until a few years ago, I had a Netscape email address, but Aol changed changed the period of inactivity clause from 6 months to 3 months, declared my account dormant, and converted it to an Aol account. I'm still pissed about that. Don't even remember the name of the Aol account they made for me. For all I know, I am still missing out on Nigerian prince wealth and dick pill ads.

Looking it up, they currently have 54 million subscribers. Some of those are bundled or promos so they're not getting the full $5 for each, but if they were, that's over 3 billion a year. That's compared to the 1.5 or so billion they used to make yearly selling DVD's or VOD. Which sounds great until you consider the 11 billion (I'm guessing they get half of the box office) Disney movies made in 2019 that they're not making in 2020.

I guess they could move some of those to Disney+. Netflix makes a profit with multiple 100 million dollar+ movies charging $13 a month. They're not very good movies though.

A soon as they try to watch Artemis Fowl, I'll bet at least 25 percent will quit Disney+.

The floor is lava show is terrible. It's like adult Legends of the Hidden Temple only with all the fantasy, fun, and heart sucked from it. No idea how they made that show so bland.

Seconding this. I really enjoyed the first season of the US version of Wipeout, so I figured I'd give this a try. I was so wrong. The first 30 minutes of the show was just a camera panning around the lava room showing all of the possible routes and pitfalls, complete with lovely graphics. Literally no action for the first half of the show.

If you make a show called The Floor is Lava, you can be drat sure the audience wants to see someone go screaming into the lava within 2 minutes of starting the program.

We never got Muzzy in my high school french, just some weird thing that was live action. Only thing I remember from it was that there were repeated scenes of the star, a twenty something french woman, marching directly toward the camera, braless, set to the 1812 Overture. It was so blatant and repetitive that the class started humming along and laughing every time

I am willing to watch this.

We had something similar in out Freshman year French class. This was in 1983, and the two leads were college age women wearing see through button up shirts with 60's style pointy cone bras. It does not seem to exist on the internet.

After my grandmother passed away, they had some tables set up with various jewellery and knick-knacks for any of the family to take as keepsakes, at first giving everyone a turn with the early stuff but later just letting anyone grab whatever they wanted that was left. It's nice having some familiar keepsakes around. I'm not sure how they handled the big stuff, though.

After my wife's grandmother passed away, we were going through her house and found a whole bunch of vintage sex stuff. Not toys or anything, most of it was books on how to prepare for your first time, what a husband expects, etc. But there was this vaginal graduated dilator kit that came in a pretty cool looking box. I wanted to keep it, but the wife was a bit squeemish about keeping a series of objects that had been up grandma's cooter.

Man, I can't even find a picture of grandma's old cooter preparation kit on the internet. The company must of gone esolvent a long time ago. But there are plenty of pictures of 30's vintage anal dilator sets. I guess they were big into butt plugs back then too, under the guise of treating piles and constipation.

Also, I never use the word cooter in real life.

I can't say this is too surprising.

We had a K-Mart nearby, that became a Sears Essentials, then back to a K-Mart. The whole setup had been floundering for a decade until it all closed up about 3 years ago. The whole strip mall underwent a major renovation, and the building was split into 4 stores. Homegoods, TJ Maxx, Sprouts Market and a Stein Mart. I did not think the remodel was going to do any good, but I was wrong. Before the Rona, the parking lot was packed every day, although the Stein Mart was not as popular as HG and the Maxx. The retail shops closed up for about 2 months in mid-March, and about a month ago, Homegoods and TJ Maxx started up again. But Stien Mart remained closed.

Our location was full of old lady clothes and tacky costume jewelry aimed at the aforementiond old ladies, so no big loss.

Also, Stein Mart did not sell anal dilator kits.

Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes. F that place. 35 years ago, a 16 years old Cat rear end moved with his parents and younger siblings to the Bay Area. For "reasons", once we arrived at our new home town, one of the only places open was Souplantation. We were tired, hungry, sick of travel and snapping at each other. We took one step inside, looked around, took a deep smell, and as a family all came to the same conclusion. This place was going to kill us all if we ate there. We left and never went back.

Somehow it remained open until this year when the rona closed it temporarily, which was made permanent across all locations in May. Good riddance.

I honestly don't know, I haven't lived in the area in 17 years, and I wasn't exactly going to bars yet when I did. It was sort of our tertiary Denny's, so we didn't go there frequently, but I recall the entire building being a standalone, where most of it was Denny's, but there was definitely a separate area with it's own entrance that was a bar.

EDIT:

Just looked it up on GOogle Streetview, and the sign says:

"<-- Cocktail Lounge
Resturaunt -->"

and the door clearly has a Denny's logo on it.

EDIT 2:
Yeah, looks like it closed in 2018 and was torn down in 2019, it's now just an empty field :rip:

Denny's Lounges used to be a thing. We had one near us when I was a kid in the late 70's/early 80's in the Chicago suburbs. But when we moved to California, there were no lounges. But during a late 2000'3 trip to Seattle, we came across one. I'm pretty sure it even allowed smoking. It was like a trip back in time, complete with the old Denny's starbust raised wood decorations. For the life of me, I can't remember where we were, and I can't find it on Google street view. Somewhere between Tacoma and the OR border. I am sure it is long gone.

Edit: Might have been Spokane. Looks like as recently as 2016 it had a lounge

My plan to stave off boredom if I had enough money to live off of is to get a part time retail job, be honest with Karens until it got me fired, and repeat.

I did that once. I had built up too much vacation time and was told to cash it in or use it. Being all young and edgy, I took two weeks off and decided to indulge myself in an experiment. A part time job paired with a lot of surfing. I will admit, I was seeking conflict, and it was actually hard to find. Plus, I would never swear or call customers names. And even when I was honest with a Karen, it never went anywhere. The store would tell the customer I would be talked to/disciplined. And when a manager did bring up a couple of incidents I said that I just didn't care.

In the end, I had to quit and go back to my real job, I was not fired. I guess when you really don't care, and have absolutely no fear of losing your job, you can get away with a lot. On the flipside, other than telling off the occasional entitled shopper, I was a really good employee. (An OC K-mart employee of the week, circa 2004)

My grandmother turns 94 tomorrow and knows how to use her smart phone better than he uses his flip phone. Boomers suck.

Around 2010, I was in a restaurant, and at the table next to me there was couple in their late 70's I would assume. Each of them had a brand new smart phone, and they were going through the features, exploring and learning about them together. Camera, texting, various apps and the built in browser were all being discussed.

After about 10 minutes, the man just became quiet, put down his glasses and began to tear up.
"This is all just so amazing....." he said to his wife.

I like to think he is stall amazed, and not using it to poo poo post in the comments section of the local newspaper.

This was the last time I ever went into a Blockbuster.

I saw Christmas poo poo going up mid-september this year.

I imagine part of it is due to supply issues creating a rather anemic Halloween section compared to years past, and we all know how stores hate having empty shelves for any reason.

I don't really mind the supply chain issues. Anything that slows it down is good. 99 percent of the supply chain is US dollars being exchanged for single use plastic crap from China. Said dollars are then converted into fighter jets and naval vessels that the rest of east Asia has to deal with.

Nevermind, I really need that slutty cat outfit for my wife.

Take is from a civil engineer with an emphasis in transportation (UCI, class of 91. Go 'Eaters!!) Cars, pickups and SUV's don't do jack poo poo to a properly built road. It is all about the big rigs. You ever wonder why they pay such high taxes? It is because they do ALL of the damage to roadways. Roads are designed using the ESAL concept.

Check out Table 7.1 on page 7. You see those zeros for cars, pickups and SUVs? You can run a heavy car over properly built pavement all day long, it won't do a thing.
