Most things that have a terms of service now have a line requiring you to seek arbitration and giving up your right to a court. Regardless of how biased the arbitration company will be towards their corporate patron, the customer waives their right to a class action suit as part of it.

There's rulings like this, and there's going to be more of that coming down the line, so class action lawsuits are not long for this country barring a sudden and strong change in the makeup of Congress.

While true, it was pretty great to be able to pick up a kids birthday present on short notice. Amazon doesn't do same hour delivery (yet) and I'm not sure where else I can really go to get a large number of options to pick something my kids think their friends will like. I'm left with B&N (itself on borrowed time), Target, Walmart, and ??? all of which just have like an aisle or two.

They definitely needed to do a better job at the online part of their store, though.

I tried buying a washer from them a few years ago, they had serious QC issues on the washers they were delivering. It culminated with one that was so badly dented on the frame that it looked like it was sneering at me (there's no way the lid was going to actually close on it, either). After 3 failed appliance deliveries, they made their money when I demanded a refund by saying they were going to give back everything but a delivery fee since the delivery trucks DID come out.

They COULD have become an appliance show room but that would have probably quickened their demise if my experience is anything to go by.

A bit late since Lazytown the show is basically already shuttered, but since we're on cum talk, story time!

I worked at Lazytown on season 3 and 4. I didn't know in my first two weeks that the actor who plays sportacus was also the owner. He came in to help direct the scene where he eats a poisoned apple from robby rotten that was filled with sugar syrup. They shot a plastic apple with bite out of it falling, but needed me to add "sugar goo" in a 30 frame clip (it's in the final episode). Magnús came to me and was describing how it should be thick, viscus, and honey colored, but "it should not look like cum". I couldn't help myself and blurted out, "well you came to the right person, because I'm a cum expert"

I could hear the gasp of my female german boss from across the room and every other person in the VFX room stopped what they were doing. The only sound was my poo poo eating grin getting bigger. He just replied "right, okay" and left.

I think it looks like honey, mission accomplished.

That's very bad and definitely guillotine-tier capitalism, but I was thinking more like, pay Disney or whoever a modest sum directly to stream whatever on its release day once. How many millions of people across this hellcursed globe can't afford the cost of a movie ticket and a visit to the concessions stand? How many millions of people are even close enough to a movie theater to feasibly manage to get there without incurring further costs? And how many of those people can scrounge up 10-20 to instead just see the movie in their living room? Probably a whole lot.

This exists to some limited extent, but the price point for screening a movie in your home is closer to $100, since the assumption is that you're going to have a bunch of friends over to watch it with you.

I guess this is the time to try it but aren't distributors not supposed to own theaters due to the antitrust stuff they previously went through?

They could finance a "startup" that gets a sweetheart deal on licensing and just continuously shovel money into it. If they do it smartly as a "boutique" Netflix experience they might not even have to shovel that much. Stagger releases, only open for part of the year, who knows.

This is the article. It's wonderful and about how wretched the whole MLB is and how they're getting worse. People want to blame "pacing issues" or TV or whatever for the decreasing popularity of baseball, when in reality if an average person could drive to a game on a weekday and have a hot dog and a beer and have the whole thing cost $30 or less, it'd fix their attendance problems right quick.

It can be both. MLB is dull as gently caress, since it takes so damned long, and the pacing is determined by TV.

GWBBQ posted:

Baseball is too slow paced for younger generations (movies have been consistently getting faster paced, I suspect it can be generalized to sports but I'm not sure). Football has 4 or 5 decades left at max because our understanding of CTEs and subconcussive injuries will inevitably kill it off as people realize how risky it is and refuse to let their kids play. Basketball is fast paced, easy to follow (the big ball helps a lot), and it's easy to get into thanks to college leagues being such a big thing (at least in the US). NHL? HDTV saved the sport for sure, and I suspect we're going to see it become a less physical and more agile sport for the same reasons that American football is doomed.

Hard disagree on most of the doom saying.

MLB in 2018 takes absolutely forever to play. The same 18 minutes of actual play in the game has stretched out from 2 hours in 1946 to 3 hours now. It's not that people's attention spans are getting shorter, it's that the game is literally getting more boring by the year. Baseball can very much be a fun game to spectate, but it's just NOT right now. MLB has at least finally realized this, but they're going to have to cut into the very lucrative TV commercial time to fix it which is going to be an extremely painful decision for them, so it likely comes down to whether they're willing to let greed drive them extinct.

Football won't stop because people realize how dangerous it is, as long as there's a fraction of the population that sees it as their ticket out of poverty, and we can as a society ignore that we're putting injuries onto a subclass as long as we get our entertainment.

Don't expect to see fighting in hockey go away anytime soon, it's Soccer On Ice without it.
