Minnesota United poised to join MLS in 2017, with name change

quote:

the Loons will likely be forced to change their name, dropping 'United', and re-branding. The reasoning for the forced change in name? Because Arthur Blank, the owner of the other 2017 expansion franchise, Atlanta United FC, reportedly thinks it would be odd to have two 'Uniteds" joining MLS at the same time.

quote:

“The word ‘United’ has long been associated with the beautiful game around the world,” AUFC president Darren Eales said upon the unveiling. “It has particular resonance for Atlanta, as a transport hub in the Southeast, as a multi-cultural, international city and as a club committed to community.”

Rayo Vallecano 2015-16 kits

To honor the 'unsung heroes of society', the black Rayo Vallecano 2015-16 Away Shirt features a striking rainbow sash on the front. Each color of the sash represent the club's support of a movement, while all all six colors combined represent the fight against discrimination for sexual orientation.

The stripes represent different things in Oklahoma. The Green Stripe is my favorite.

The 103rd Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 1st Round draw was today!

Indy Eleven NPSL (amateur, mostly u23) drew Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC (PDL). The winner of that game plays FC Cincinnati (USL) in round 2, and the winner of that game will almost certainly play the actual Indy Eleven in Indianapolis in round 3.

Also, Dark Clouds had a literal Purple Rain tifo.

USL is getting its D2 status regardless; NASL brand could continue as a D2 league within USL and the MLS reserve sides and smaller clubs could form a D3 league within USL, maybe.

This is absolutely the best case scenario. But USSF will gently caress it up somehow!

those 3-4 teams would be the former NASL going concerns Indy Eleven, North Carolina Railhawks FC, Jacksonville Armada and SF Deltas I guess. Which would add 3 teams to the already 14 team USL Eastern Conference (FC Montreal is gone, Ottawa Fury will be Impact de Montreal FC's affiliate). I personally believe it will work out like that, USL becomes Div 2 and keeps its geographical conferences. HOWEVER

if the ussf really does care about not having reserve teams in div 2 you could separate usl into vertical divisions, i.e.:

USL 1
fc cincinnati
harrisburg city islanders
louisville
tb rowdies
indy eleven
ncfc
jax
colorado springs switchbacks fc
phoenix rising! fc
sac rep
san antonio spurs fc
and tulsa roughnecks (if they are still a thing idk I heard it's not going well.)

and then USL2 is all the reserve and affiliate teams. no pro/rel cause gently caress you

i like this solution because it benefits my team the most. Also it ignores the biggest selling points of USL, reduced travel costs and the opportunity for younger players to play in front of MLS scouts. It just makes a nicer NASL basically

SI posted:

The NASL club’s president, Jeff Belskus, confirmed to SI.com late Monday that the Eleven, owner Ersal Ozdemir and the city of Indianapolis are pursuing one of the four MLS expansion openings. Ozdemir will deliver the application by hand to the league office in Manhattan on Tuesday. Indianapolis is the 12th city to declare its MLS intentions.

In mid-December, the league announced its plan to add four more teams, bringing the eventual membership to 28 (including Los Angeles FC next year and David Beckham’s quixotic Miami project). At that time, prospective investors in Charlotte, Cincinnati, Detroit, Nashville, Raleigh, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Diego and Tampa Bay already had come forward. An 11th applicant, the USL's Phoenix Rising, then joined the fray last week.

0% chance this happens
