Is this the year voter turnout in the USA is finally not lovely?

The political revolution Bernie Sanders is talking about needs like 70% turnout to succeed imo (2008 was 58% FWIW)

Bernie Sanders did better with working class democrats than he did with the ultra liberal ones, is the surprising part. I guess that economic message really does resonate

Hillary Clinton's campaign is about a person, Bernie Sanders' campaign is about an idea

You can kill a person but you can't kill an idea

It can be terribly frustrating to see a bunch of kids who didn't live through the Reagan/Bush 1 era, who didn't see how much better Bill Clinton made things when he was elected, who believe FULL COMMUNISM NOW is an achievable goal, slamming Clinton for not making unrealistic promises about things like universal free college or for getting speaking fees when getting speaking fees is what basically every major politician does when they aren't actively campaigning or in office.

On the other hand, those of us who lived through the complete, unrepentant obstructionism of both modern Democratic presidencies by reactionary, dickbag Republicans want to see plans of how you actually enact these ideas.

Clinton's smallball approach is a little depressing of a thing to sign on to, but seems more realistic given the historical headwinds that have existed towards enacting real change.

Bill Clinton dismantled the welfare state, enacted incredibly harsh and short sighted 3 strikes laws, signed legislation removing restrictions on banks, and free trade agreements that moved thousands of jobs out of this country. He agreed with Reagan that the government was the problem and that private, market based solutions were appropriate for basically every problem, and I've only touched on the economic right wing policy of his administration. If that's fighting against an obstructionist Congress, I shudder to imagine what he would have done with a more pliable legislative branch.

America is dumb and for years equivocated liberalism with all leftist ideologies, so what are you gonna call yourself when you're more left than a liberal?

rscott
Dec 10, 2009
Something like 27% of the electorate identified as liberal in 2000, that number had moved to 42% by 2015

It turns out that financial crises are a good way to move people to the left in a way that the slow strangle of the previous 30 years didn't
