A few pages back, but I was camping down at the the most southerly point of the australian mainland that summer holiday as a kid with the family, we woke up in the morning and the annex on the caravan had collapsed, tents were in trees, there was flooding when the nearby river broke its banks and the sand dunes at the beach were eroded to gently caress, still visible evidence of that erosion today, 20 years later.

A lot of people packed up what they could and just went home. The storm happened on the night of the 26th, which is the first day of the summer camping season where you hav to enter a lottery to get a camp site months in advance, people just went home and left wrecked tests and soggy camping gear in place.

The beach was crazy though, you couldn't see any clear water, just white wash all the way to the horizon.

Australian shipbuilders, American contractors, funding and labor.

I heard a story that the engines sat exposed on the dock for like 3 months because they were not ready to install them yet, that is how they rusted as they were supposed to be stored in a climate controlled warehouse.

Driver survived with some injuries, out of hospital today.

This is essentially a brand new sign, was put up mid last year when that freeway was widened, this is the main route between the city and the airport (although the sign is located on an offramp) so somebody hosed up bigtime.

"Cesium-137 capsule found in a junkyard in Brazil. In 1987, this same material caused the largest radioactive accident in the country's history."

https://g1.globo.com/al/alagoas/not...rro-velho.ghtml

(google translated article)

quote:

City of Arapiraca says capsule containing cesium-137 was found in junkyard
Object was found after anonymous report. Thirty years ago, an incident in Goiânia involving this radioactive material became the largest radiological accident in the world.

The city of Arapiraca reported that an x-ray capsule containing cesium-137, a radioactive substance extremely dangerous to health, was found in a junkyard of the city on the afternoon of Monday (22).

The capsule was collected by the Municipal Sanitary Surveillance in the neighborhood of São Luiz II, after an anonymous denunciation.

When informed of the risk involved, the owner of the facility delivered the capsule, which had been removed from mammography equipment. He did not say how he succeeded, however.

Coordinator of the Municipal Sanitary Surveillance, Edilson Melo, explains that if the company that did the incorrect disposal is identified, it could respond criminally for putting the community at risk.

"It's closed, there's no danger, but if it had been opened, people would be at risk of contamination. We managed to avoid a tragedy like the one that happened in Goiânia (GO) 32 years ago, "says Melo.

The incident cited by the coordinator occurred on September 13, 1987, when scavengers located a radiotherapy device, similar to that found in the municipality of Alagoas, dismantled and sold to a junkyard.

The blue staining powder on the equipment caused four deaths and contaminated at least 249 people. This was known as the world's largest radiological accident.

Anyone who has information that can help locate the person responsible for the capsule's disposal or wants to make other complaints, you can call the Arapiraca Sanitary Surveillance at (82) 3530-3302, from 8am to 2pm.

It gets better/worse. It misses his next train to toronto, sits in a bush overnight after accidentally getting on a train going into a train yard and being trapped in there for awhile and being spotted.

He then catches another train to get out of there, which goes the wrong way (to detroit) and he has to jump off it in the middle of the night at speed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYCAMfbmJ-0&t=235s (4mins in)

Its a huge area of the south east bayside suburbs. ALso as noted by someone else, there is an inner hole around a park with a lake in it.

To be fair this is how everyone rode the train until a few years ago when an idiot driver hit the train at a level crossing. So there was a ban for like 6 months from sitting on the edge.

A woman has narrowly escaped serious injury after a crane carrying a pre-made home toppled and crashed through the roof of her house in Melbourne's west.

Frank Pace and his cousin Daniel Pantalleresco were also inside the house when the crane fell about 1:00pm.

"Me and my cousin Daniel were sitting down watching TV and all of a sudden the roof just collapsed and the side of the house came in, and we were so confused [by] what happened, we were screaming, just ran for the exit," Mr Pace said.

And from reddit:

Neighbours were getting a modular house installed via crane and of course everything goes to poo poo and it crashes into the side of our house. How is everyone else’s day going?

...

Just about to move back into our renovated house after a year, and our neighbour’s modular smashes into it.
