I once cut a set of DNA samples out of gels with the help of a UV lamp. The camera setup was making the cutting a little awkward, so I stuck my head inside the curtain and cut them out that way. There was no heat, so I didn't think anything about it until the next day, when I woke up with the worst "sun" burn of my life, complete with untouched skin around my eyes (at least I was wearing goggles). My boss had some fun with me over the next couple of days. I'm lucky all I got was some pain out of that whole event. From then on I kept my sample sizes small and always used the camera, no matter how awkward.
