I believe that the Iranians just want to be left the gently caress alone, and with our potential influence we might be able to even get them to realize that gay people are a thing and that's cool. But I know that doing poo poo like writing a letter in the attempt to sabotage diplomatic talks has kind of made Iran realize that the right wingers are *loving nuts*. They'd rather actually be able to talk and be diplomatic with the democrats than at perpetual war like they would with the republicans. War on terror etc. etc. Because it's not a war on the concept of terror, it's a war on brown people. As a bisexual man, I believe that coming closer to them would only prove better at dissuading them from their hard overreaction to homosexuality. I feel for those stuck in that situation, and I want to help, but continuing to let the fundies in Iran point at us as the great satan because we oppose them isn't going to work.
