"Set Automatically" off
Change date to Jan 1, 1970 (Scroll up to get to year 2000, then go back, into date settings again, repeat until it reaches 1970)
Reboot.
The iOS device will fail to boot, stuck at display of Apple logo.
DON'T DO THIS!!!!!!!!! A DFU restore or Recovery mode restore will NOT put the device back into working order. The restore will succeed, but the device will still not boot after restore.
A physical repair (either a Genius Bar appointment or physically disconnecting battery and connecting again) is required for the device to function again.
This will affect any iOS device powered by A7, A8, A8X, A9 and A9X chips. The version of iOS running does not matter. 32-bit iOS devices will not be affected by this issue.
Hopefully Apple will soon issue a software upgrade to resolve the issue.
Update:
Apparently, /u/Liamguy6666 bricked his iPod touch (6th gen), /u/csweeney29 bricked his iPhone 6s and /u/OliverKu bricked his iPad mini 3.
/u/Ziph0n has created a wonderful Cydia tweak, BrickingDate (http://repo.ziph0n.com/) to prevent malicious users from replicating this "bug" manually.
