Double hot takes on this debate: FRIEND'S HOT TAKE: I watched the debate with a room full of uber-liberal Toronto millennials(my friends). It was too drat cold to go out proper so we all got together for a house party and played a debate drinking game. At the start of the debate all my friends REALLY hated Trump, and in the end they all think he's the 'second best' and like him other than the 'racism stuff.' He was the most improved candidate in the eyes of the women in the room who still think he's a piece of garbage but they all hate Jeb!/Cruz/Rubio far worse now. Of course they all liked Kasich the most, but loved how Trump called out the Bush family and defended Planned Parenthood. So if Kasich left the race Trump won the Toronto ironic hipster vote. congrats Trump. MY HOT TAKE: It was the most TRUMP debate we've had since the first FOX debate and the first CNN debate, and it mixed with some new crazy. It really was the best debate. Trump was like a bull in a china shop. His fans loved it, Dems loved it, moderates loved it, classic 'conservatives' most likely hated it and think he bombed. Will it hurt him? Who's to say!? Jeb! did really well in the first few exchanges with Trump but blew himself apart when he kept bringing up his family unprompted. It made him look so damned weak in my opinion. He also lost just about every other exchange he had with the other candidates not named Trump. Cruz had a mixed bag. Trump super slammed him and he really tried to play the adult which may work for him... But then he came off silly in his exchange with Rubio(Was that Spanish?) so who knows. Rubio sort of skated by. Got dinged against Trump, but otherwise he was neither great nor terrible. I'm sure the establishment is crowing about his VICTORY and COME BACK right now as predicted. Kasich had the 'best' night as he looked sane and took it to Jeb when he needed to, but he also looked by far the most liberal while sharing a debate stage with Donald "Planned Parenthood does good stuff" Trump. Carson... He was there.

I really want to see post-debate polls now. It could go either way for Trump and the way it ends up going says a lot about the direction of American politics. (hint: trump won't be stumped)

Is there anywhere to watch the debate in full online? My useless piece of poo poo local station said they'd air it at 9 local time (Pacific), but instead they're airing Jeopardy and whatnot. The CBS News Live feed picked it up on delay, and I've missed the first 45 minutes... hopefully they'll repeat it again. This is the second time that I've lost a debate on broadcast TV because the local station lied about when they'd broadcast it. It's getting really, really old.

I think trump's campaign spokeswoman said a while back explicitly that they see it as about globalism vs nationalism and not conservatism vs liberalism, so I doubt trump cares too much about being seen as Not A Real Conservative

since we're doing HOT TAKES, here's mine Carson: Actually appeared to be there, if only to plug his website. Kasich: Came across as the moral high road, probably did very well in the eyes of the GOP. Cruz: Shot some Cruz missiles out, particularly in support of trump vis the donor audience. I actually liked his Sophomore spanish lesson against Rubio. Failed to really counter the accusations of vote fuckery though Jeb: Worst showing. Why the hell did he keep bringing his family up? What the hell was he doing talking about his mom so much? Overall acted like the kid at recess who has had enough of the bully and goes on the counter to initial (shock induced) success, only to be reminded of exactly why people call him the momma's boy. Rubio: Rubiobot.exe has recovered, now playing Reagan.mp4. Standby. Trump Treated the debate like a WWE showdown, and won said showdown. Absolutely smashed the populist vote and showed off the extreme splintering the GOP is suffering. THE MODERATOR/NEWS COVERAGE: Shamefully, painfully biased towards Rubio and Jeb. Softballed both of them hard.

You'd think at some point it would start to sink in that the republican base, and trump's base, aren't exactly the same thing. The more this kind of thing happens, the more those two are going to diverge, and that should be completely loving terrifying for the GOP.

When we see what shoes candidates are wearing they are cowboy boots we laugh. A real worker has scuffed up work boots with dirt ground so far into the leather that you can not polish it out. Plus those boots. Those boots were your grandpas and have been repaired and passed down. It blows me away that they think the bs of polished, new work boots/fake cowboy boots passes up here.
