Dude did one thing in the 'lay low and don't draw attention' and that was to get a job in a school. (assuming his class assignments aren't all 'What is Shakespeare saying about RACISM in Othello?' or other such things. Even then, it seems like the Principal has his back).

Just say you weren't paying attention and were feeding your cat while cooking or someshit instead of blaming the series. I'm somewhat surprised Racist Gas Ginger wasn't at the Klan rally they attended. Seemed like the perfect time for Jake to get confronted by him.

Overdrift posted:I don't really understand why it's so important that he lives out a life in small town America. Partially because Jake's life before he steps through is kind of rough and the small town poo poo gives him an idyllic way to reinvent himself. Also partially because it lets the Author explore some fun themes about class and race that still reverberate today.

The clothespin goes on his dick, as an earlier poster alluded to. It's likely a sex-shaming thing... Like his mother saw him touching himself as a child and decided to clothespin him because he was a DIRTY DIRTY BIRD DIRTY BIRDS GET THEIR WORMS CHOPPED OFF. It fits with him marriage raping her and then telling her to clean her dirty self. There's a whole thing about angst and sexuality (repressed sexuality especially) in King stories. Goes back to Carrie's breast development (Dirty Pillows) and menarche (only dirty unclean sluts bleed). So the time period is especially apt for that stuff. The hint that the Principal and Miss Mimi have a deeper relationship was a very nice touch, and makes his remark about asking her library question when he first hired Jake a nice touch. He also mentions it would likely prevent RFK from being assassinated (and maybe MLK) since he was the big anti-war nominee. You'd also probably prevent Nixon's presidency too. Of course, without JFK's death, RFK doesn't get the soul-searching experience that turns him hard to fighting poverty and war, so he's likely become a hawkish Dem in favor of using the CIA to quell subversives...

In fairness, Nixon was remarkably civil and fell on the sword during the Kennedy election, when he could have contested all the voting discrepancies and thrown a shadow over the whole thing. Instead, he felt that the succession of the presidency should never be called into question and just peaced out. Of course, he took the ratfuck tricks to heart for his term in office. I probably should have thrown in LBJ likely doesn't propose The Great Society as a result of saving Jack. So there's a whole lot of negatives off the bat.

Al's bit there makes it into the series, at least in part, but it's kind of easily glossed over sadly. I remember the RFK bit at least.Fragmented posted:Just call the secret service and tell them your neighbor told you he's going to shoot the president(and hes a marine sniper that defected to the USSR, and he showed you his rifle)? This episode had terrible fight choreography. Franco looked like he was getting slapped. The also did that thing where they take a popular song and sing it slowly, with a different key/moody music. poo poo's been a peeve of mine since Age of Ultron made it hip. I know the big criticism is that the personal relationship stuff is getting in the way of all the cool time-travel related plot that could be happening, but I really enjoy the way that The Past Fights Back is turning Jake's past relationships into liabilities.
