Crazy sounds like a metaphor for delivering a payload of RDX and nails to a deserving recipient.

Most of these tunnel bomb video seems to show the dust cloud blowing out a bunch of what looks like NO2. I wanna know what is doing that but I also don't want to end up on more watchlists.

Edit: Apparently unwanted clouds of NO2 are a super common problem with ANFO used in mining. In short, ANFO will fart out a bunch of orange poison when subjected to all sorts of outside factors that are probably present in 100% of videotaped instances of muds blowing up tunnels.

That video made me think of those giant rear end "gently caress Siberia" trucks the Russians use. I want one, I bet I could run it on turpentine and piss.

Parking the short range rocket launcher on a hill seems in line with the Syrian MO.

It's the Middle East so "intended purpose" doesn't amount to poo poo but the TOS-1 is kind of a niche vehicle, you don't need fancy thermobaric poo poo to level a village. There's plenty of Warsaw Pact rocket artillery that'll do the job just fine and stay out of ATGM shitwreck range, which is why it strikes me as odd that they parked their Buratino on a hill but it's Syria so ~welp~

I could have sworn I saw something about 20x102mm being kind of a poo poo cartridge when compared to the 25mm that gets slung by the bushmaster and GAU-whatever gatling guns and all the flavors of 30mm NATO uses and that there was a push to move away from it. IIRC it wasn't even an issue of bigger is better so much as the ballistics and destructive power for the size of the vulcan cartridge were just bad. I know the F-22 has a vulcan cannon but the gun has been built into the plane forever at this point and may have been stuck in there before they decided to switch to something else.

There any truth to that?

Regardless, Rotate Russian Rotaries

The MGM-51 Shillelagh missile got lobbed out of the barrel of the M81E1 gun/launcher with a little powder charge. Sounds good but the missile wasn't designed to have any spin imparted on launch so it engaged a loving keyway cut into the the rifling grooves of the barrel tube to resist the spin from the rifling.

Since the barrel of the gun/launcher was built to accommodate a fat assed missile it had a huge bore of 152mm, way too big to propel any sort of kinetic energy penetrator at a useful speed without a giant charge, a giant charge that would blow up what is essentially an overbuilt potato gun.

Instead, the standard unguided HEAT M81E1 shells were giant low velocity shaped charges with non metallic, flammable shell cases that could catch on fire if placed in a hot barrel. The low velocity from the necessarily small propellant charge meant high travel time from gun to target, so they were rather difficult to aim.

Speaking of, check out those shiny rifles and MGs at 39:00. Are they nickel plated front to back or just painted white or something?

They're nickel plated and have shown up in a bunch of Nork poo poo before. Do they have a nickel plated gat factory or is it just the same set getting passed around like a drunk prom date? It's North Korea so both options are equally likely.

These are from a video in 2012:

As a class 3 dealer any post 1986 ban automatic you acquire with a giggleswitch is never technically yours, it's a "dealer sample" and it is attached to your business. There's other strings too, like your "business" has to fulfill certain obligations for it to count as a business.

Shore bombardment, all the fjords and bays in Scandinavia warrant lots of small combat boats.

bij
Feb 24, 2007

I think pretty much every modern mortar shell contains its own propellant so there's no powder bags to load beforehand or shells to eject after firing. I don't know about the AMOS specifically but crew served mortar shells often have little pre-measured rings of propellant wrapped around the tail that the crew tears off for different ranges and trajectories. I guess the distinction would be that the mortar tube itself doesn't require any extra loading or ejection steps.

The 2A28 gun on the BMP-1 is goofy as hell, the whole gun weighs like 250lb and it uses a little powder charge to spit out a 73mm rocket that is basically a glorified RPG-7 HEAT round. I'd imagine a Hilux could suck up the recoil pretty easily.

The inert training rounds were super common on surplus dealers for a while but always cost more than I am willing to spend on something silly like a pretend communist rocket.
