If it's just a plain jane Mk82 without a JDAM or GBU unit, those are pretty much a crap shoot for F-16 pilots dropping them over 15k feet anyway from what I've been told

iyaayas01 posted:Yeah in all seriousness pretty sure the last time the USAF (or the US military as a whole) dropped an unguided bomb in a combat situation was maaaaybe during the initial invasion of Iraq in '03, and even that was probably just to use up some CBU-87s without burning up a WCMD tailkit while were shock 'n' awe'ing some shithole Iraqi town or something. If you want to go back to the last conflict in which unguided munitions made up more than a fraction of a percent of the total muns dropped it'd be Allied Force in the late '90s, and if you want to have it be where unguided munitions were a majority of the bombs dropped it'd be Desert Storm, which was over a quarter of a century ago. One of the California ANG pilots I talked to from time to time in 07 said that F-16s carried unguided Mk84s pretty often while just making right hand turns over "Iraqi strongholds" during the invasion just for show of force poo poo , but they only dropped a handful of them to take the fight out of haj that would take potshots

Capn Beeb posted:Can you give robots wedgies? Egg Skynet on. The original script for Terminator Salvation had a cool reveal in it, turns out the Terminators had this huge secret base and they think it's the Skynet mainframe/uplink, they get there, fight their way in and discover they built a utopia for the surviving humans they captured who didn't try to fight them and that Connor might have known that the machines were just trying to protect humanity from violent assholes like John Connor the whole time

chitoryu12 posted:That probably would have worked better if it wasn't essentially retconning all the other future stuff, like Skynet intentionally nuking the planet as its very first action. Iirc It was explained as skynet trying to retaliate against US government for trying to destroy it

Capn Beeb posted:Yeah that was kinda neat, though it really didn't fit in with any of the established story stuff at all. Salvation could've been a lot better, like maybe not killing Terry Crews off camera. But it kinda does. It makes sense as to why a few Terminators had tried to help the resistance, because they were taking the programming instructions of "Help humans GOTO 10" too seriously

Godholio posted:Probably. If they were to crank out new F-15s with these features it would probably cost $135M apiece. But the big problem with buying new F-15s is that it completely fucks over any modernization effort. You can kiss the sixth-gen program goodbye for at least 15 more years because Congress simply will not do both. Three loving fighter jet programs for the USAF? That's hilarious. In the 50s and 60s they were swapping out airframes every 6 years. Multirole killed cool airplanes
