Monty Python had to deal with something similar. There was a line in Flying Circus about dying from cancer, and someone wasn't happy broadcasting cancer stuff so they had to replace it with "gangrene." Because it was in one of Gilliam's cartoon segments, which have no lip synch to speak of, it would have been easy to do seamlessly; because they're Monty Python and the whole thing's rather silly, they decided to overdub just the one word in Carol Cleveland's narration, and have Michael Palin do it.

 That reminds me, in Uniracers for the SNES you got the message "NOT COOL ENOUGH" when you tried to name your cycle a swear word, Satan, or, probably most notably, Sonic or Sega.
