It’s possible I’m a little cool on it due to the fact that it’s the Redemption Project for much of the leading cast of Spider-Man the Musical, which I saw twice, once before they fired Julie Taymor and once afterwards. before she was fired the show was the craziest poo poo I ever saw and was really entertaining in a “hahaha holy poo poo wtf is this” way. after they cleaned it up it was just like… well, this is fine, but I don’t really understand why we’re here, you know? the revised version was nothing I hadn’t already seen in the Raimi films, with honestly worse music (the score for the musical is loving garbage) and batshit production design. I started writing out the “fun” story of how my mom decided I had to read Les Mis before she’d get tickets to the musical and how as a consequence it became one of my favorite books and the musical became one of my mom’s favorites, but then I realized it might be mildly hosed up that she challenged me to read a 1200-page book when I was 13 years old and now I’m not sure how I feel about the whole thing the book and musical do both rule, though, even if that movie is uneven Gruß vom Krampus |
