So, Finnish news told today that 5 of the top generals of Polish army have resigned and more will probably follow. Does that mean that PiS is purging army in addition to justice system?

Its a protest resignation. The new minister of defense, Antoni "birch trees can't bring down airplanes, even if you crash into them" Macierewicz has said he plans to purge the officer ranks of anyone who was trained during the communist era, especially those trained in the Soviet Union. That's about 1/2 to 2/3 of the senior officer staff so they're just getting a head start. The chiefs of the army, navy and air forces all resigned and are already being called traitors by the right.

I mean, as a PiS supporter you can imagine the conspiracy theories he subscribes to and he'll probably praise throwing out fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine as "PO made up ridiculous evidence rules to stop PiS from prosecuting commie mutant traitors! GLORY TO THE FATHERLAND!" but I'd like to think if he's so obsessed with getting rid of corruption in Poland, a functioning justice system would be kinda important to him.

I have sources but they're in Polish and if your family is rabid PiS fanatics they will reject them because they come from the traitorous "German" media. There's not a concise summary of changes implemented by PiS that I know of and your people would probably think most of those are positive changes if they have that ideological bent.

Another fun thing PiS is planning which I read in Rzeczpospolita yesterday is they plan to forbid civil authorities from issuing certificates of unmarried status to people planning to enter into same sex marriages in other countries. Some countries require you to present a certificate stating you're not married in order to enter into a marriage (basically to guard against polygamy) and this will no longer be available for gay people. Not only can't you get gay married in Poland, you can't even get gay married abroad if you're Polish. Good change has come to the Republic!

Dlatego projekt zakłada też likwidację wprowadzonych w 2014 r. zaświadczeń o stanie cywilnym, stosowanych w takim właśnie celu.

People can believe what they want but I can want people to believe less too because ultimately I and I guess Pierogi too believe that religion is a force for evil in the world.

Anyway Poland was doomed to religiosity for the next several decades because of JPII and people's perception of him as one of the main catalysts in the fall of communism.

A survey showing how much Poles like people of other nations was released and surprise! We don't really like anyone! Except maybe the Czechs! I don't know why either!

The title says: Relation of Poles to Nations and Ethnic Groups

The columns are Green: Sympathy, Grey: Indifference, Red: Dislike, Blue: Hard to Say

I think most of you can figure out what the ethnic groups being referred to are. I'll just say Wlosi are Italians, Niemcy are Germans and Zydzi are Jews because those don't look that similar to other countries names in non moonspeak.

I bring 'wonderful' news from Poland - yesterday was the commemoration of the presidential plane crash at Smolensk and as you can imagine with the current government - it was an event highly televised on the national TV.

One of the guests during the live discussion was the artistic director of TV Republika (a private TV station closely tied to PiS) and she stated that Donald Tusk should be given the highest possible penalty because of Smolensk (which was obviously an assassination) and the death penalty should be brought back to Polish law specifically for that occasion.

The Marshal (Speaker) of the Sejm who represents Polish parliament and who basically holds the most important position in the Polish lower house commented that personally he's against death penalty but that "an absolute, severe prison sentence for Donald Tusk would suffice".

Law and Justice everybody.

I really can't believe that anyone except the absolute fringe of PiS believe that Smolensk was anything other than a tragic accident. What possible reason would Tusk have to kill the President who was 20 points down in the polls for re-election. It boggles the mind. These people are clinically insane or despicable cynical opportunists of the worst order. I mean, last I remember, less than a third of Poles believe in the Assassination conspiracy theory so what's their play here politically speaking? Who are they trying to appeal to?

In another bit of (not strictly related to but certainly influenced by) PiS news, a civil court rendered a verdict denying citizenship to four children of a gay couple living in the U.S. one of whom is Polish and has Polish citizenship (as well as American). Now the law in terms of citizenship is that as long as one of your parents is a citizen of Poland, you as their child have a right to citizenship. The hangup in this case is that the children's birth certificate lists both fathers as the birth parents and Polish courts refuse to accept that. They demanded to know who the children's mothers were and when they were told that would be impossible to provide because they were surrogates and didn't want their information given, the court denied the citizenship saying that it could not accept a birth certificate with two men listed on it.

The surveys I've seen put it at something like 30% of respondents, around 10% of which 'strongly believe' in the assassination conspiracy.

edit: it was this one I think: http://cbos.pl/SPISKOM.POL/2012/K_085_12.PDF
edit2: ok, I found a more recent one, numbers are pretty similar: http://www.cbos.pl/SPISKOM.POL/2015/K_049_15.PDF

Since this is all in Polish the relevant facts are that 31% believe it could have been a conspiracy to kill the prez with 8% believing it strongly while 51% don't believe it could have been a conspiracy with 27% rejecting the theory strongly. The rest are undecided.

They were also flying completely outdated aircraft. The helicopter that crashed was a 30 year old Mi-8 and the Tupolev that crashed was also at least 30 years old. They were supposedly retrofitted and updated, but well, you can only do so much to a flying pile of poo poo like a Tupolev. Now they only lease 2 Embraer medium range jets from LOT Polish Airlines. The government doesn't have any of its own aircraft for VIP transport. I mean, I realize a 787 or a 767 are expensive but for christ's sakes, we're not Gambia, we should be able to afford one for the transport of the president or government delegations.
