The worst take. Sure, people who are aware of the serious misdeeds in America's past are sometimes susceptible to the simplistic idea that the United States is the only bad actor or that any tinpot dictator who brandies about the word socialism is actually a friend, but these people are by no means representative of the broader left.

More importantly, they have their direct counterparts in the alt-right, whose members are busy engaging in auto-erotic asphyxiation as they ram Putin's cock deeper and deeper down their throats. The alt-left at least vaguely have their hearts in the right place, the alt-right are the dregs of humanity.

It's pretty representative. It's not always reflected in outright support for North Korea and blatant things like that. Often it's just a susceptibility to anti-American talking points that go a step or two past reality. It starts in a truthful place, with condemnation of American foreign policy and atrocities committed in Iraq, etc etc. But when you dig into it to learn more about American imperialism and what the US is doing wrong in the world, sooner or later, you're going to stumble into Russian produced propaganda, whether it's labeled as such or not. And most on the left, to some degree or another, have adopted a lot of those talking points that Russia is putting out. So often, it's not a matter of their heart being in the right place. It's a matter of teams. The American team is bad, the Russian team is good. Most liberals promote Russian talking points about why the American team is bad without getting into the Russian team good stuff, but even that has horrible consequences. If Rwanda happened right now, liberals would overwhelmingly claim the US would just make it worse if they tried to do damage control there. The deaths that would follow would partially be on their hands for standing idly by. And as the massacres were happening, they would pat themselves on the back for saving the victims from the evils of intervention. They may not be the dregs of humanity, but they carry water for the people who are.

American media is absolutely batshit about Russia it his hysterical. In reality most people there were just watching the loving parade and couldn't give 2 shits about politics.

I wonder if Putin would purposely lose to cement his handpicked successor as having power and being worthy of respect? He probably has too much ego for that.

Putin doesn't take too kindly to people who present a challenge to his rule. I don't think he's the type who's concerned too much about what happens after him.

If you read the text it's pretty hardcore, Kadyrov Sr. declares jihad on Russia and then says "sure it's a problem that there are only 1 million of us and 150 million Russians, but each Chechen just has to kill 150 Russians and we'll win."

Chechen culture in the 90's is really fascinating. I remember a documentary around this time that interviewed Basayev and some other people, and my favorite story was of this battlefield where this Russian mercenary dude locked down a road or something for a couple days. The Chechens had to work hard to kill him and secure the area. They were proud when they finally took him down, so they cut his head off and paraded it around a bit to celebrate, like you do. The dude being interviewed is sitting there explaining this story and he's like "it's out of respect. If he died easy we would've just left his body there, but he gave us a good fight, so we wanted his head to celebrate." And you're just left there wondering what century these loving guys are from.

Navalny was released today. He has a pretty funny Instagram post detailing the makeover the prison went through preparing for foreigners arrested during the world cup. They not only installed toilets, but they put tvs up so prisoners could watch the games.

'Expelling diplomats' is code for 'we are not letting your intelligence operatives work openly in this country any more'. You kick out the people you know to be spies and leave the actual people who handle diplomacy. It's a way milder measure than the headlines might suggest.

Not really. I think it was this case when they expelled diplomats but didn't actually decrease the size of the diplomatic mission, meaning more people could come replace them.
