Pedantra introduced me to Ringo Deathstarr and man, they are so very much my thing. They wear their influences (e.g. my bloody valentine, lush, medicine, curve, the primitives) on their sleeves, but the thing is they do it perfectly. I just keep listening to their songs on repeat, they've earwormed me completely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAVv5G1jkW4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3xATi5s9-A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrQy8yHrw0Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6J-qS4eLWY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbQgXeY_zi4 "electro swing" sounds like it shouldn't exist but for this song at least I think it actually works sounds a little bit like beth gibbons on cocaine and x |

happy spring byob! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-c-7eH5Upo and if that's not tough enough for you, have a bonus song from the same album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rMfPvv3BMs I think "caffeine-free faux-punk fatigues" is one of my favorite musical turns of phrase ever |

hm, if your spring music doesn't involve maidens ritually dancing themselves to death, how can we be sure the gods will be appeased? however in this case I'll allow it |

a bit of B-52s appreciation if I may yes I like all the popular songs you like, love shack, rock lobster, etc, they are v good but I have recently been struck by how . . . timelessly modern their sound is my hackles are raised by songs like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl_EEpRfrkk and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXmnmvDl-ao which is doubly cool because it is a reference to a twilight zone episode, The Bewitchin' Pool I also love how they joyously and shamelessly sing songs that are blatant sexual metaphors, as in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTGRxNqhKX4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNwC0sp-uA4 and I guess beyond that, somehow more than most other bands they have a streak of . . . utopian sci-fi, a vision of a future that would now be considered retro, obsolete. if you have ever read the short story "The Gernsback Continuum" you have an idea of the quality I'm talking about, a vision of the future that is firmly embedded in the past. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvCng7-za1Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94wpjNTBAJ0 I will admit that, at one point, I sort of felt like "the female singers in this band are awesome, why does Fred Schneider mess it all up with his campy vocals?" honestly I think it just took me time to appreciate the sound the band was going for; at this point I feel like his voice is an intrinsic part of the overall feel.
