My dream scenario (for maximum chaos) would be for Trump to use his opening statement to demand that the moderators keep control of the debate, and to keep it civil, otherwise he is leaving immediately. Then Rubio starts robotically hitting him with prepared burns and Trump says "Okay, let's MAGA and peace out" Walks off to Trump WWE theme music. One can hope

I think they were just trying to get Trump on video saying he will support the nominee, so when they ratfuck them at the convention they can try some limp dicked "But wait! You're on video!"
