This reminds me of when my nana would leave wadded up tissues in her pockets and then my mom would do her laundry and the tissue would begin to disintegrate in the wash and little curls and scraps of tissue would then be distributed throughout the entire laundry load.

That would probably be all you tasted. Like eating a thing of caramel and randomly getting the taste of the tomato sauce/a noodle (i would say garlic but anyone putting that much sugar in sauce deffo puts one tiny garlic clove in at max)

I grew up without a toaster and a microwave (we had an oven with a stove though) but I was never forced to eat frozen food. Weird.

That kind of makes sense though, most frozen food is intended for microwave/toaster use IME. Like there's always the drawn out instructions for if you HAVE to make it in an oven or on the stove but they tend to be more elaborate than just "put in microwave heat for 20 sec eat alone"

In high school there was a girl who would bring a can of whatever kind of vegetable to sports practices or rehearsals or whatever have you, instead of bringing like a thermos of something warmed up or something that is "normal" to eat cold/unheated. She wasn't poor, just "wacky." Just would sit there with a spoon, scooping it straight out of the can, reassured that her life had meaning when people invariably asked/commented about the fact that she was happily sitting there eating artichokes out of a can.

Eating okra for the first time as an adult is pretty rough. I've had it a few times and I still don't know if I like it or hate it. I eat a piece, make a face that seems to indicate that I hate it, but then take another piece. Maybe it's like Moxie (soda) and the second bite (sip) is just to kill the aftertaste from the first, and so on. It's insidious!

The only Moxie I had was a couple cans from a 12pack we bought when we were vacationing in NH, is it really universally disliked? It was fine to me, not in my top favorite sodas but just tasted like what it is, caffeinated root beer

Then again I like the flavor of most sodas that aren't diet, I don't remember the last time I disliked a soda that wasn't just a weird specialty flavor

I don't think Moxie is as bad as people make it out to be, it's just considerably different from what most people are used to. I'm not a fan, it tastes a little mediciney to me, but it's not bad. I think it's a good way to get into other off-the-wall sorts of soda, if you are okay with Moxie, you could potentially be okay with quite a few other things like that; I discovered afterwards that I really like Fentimann's Dandelion & Burdock.

Neat, I'll keep an eye out for that.

It was also just really interesting seeing 12 packs of this soda I had literally never even heard of until that trip. It'd be like going to the liquor store and seeing boxes of Duff beer in real life, like you just don't expect to see it at all let alone in that quantity.
