It is not impossible they would lose more money having their shares drop three percent or whatever, than they would lose literally giving their comics away. I imagine it has more to do with ESPN's Disney order cost cutting and the resulting hemorrhaging of talent. Marvel knows what's coming if they miss a target so anything they can do to keep the House of Ideas afloat.
