Car will be mine on Saturday! Hit up lightstream for some basically free money at 1.99% and called my insurance company for a quote. Right around $500/year. Not bad at all. Now I just have to wait.

I'm not gonna rack up a ton of miles since this is basically my fun time weekend car but I could definitely see myself wanting another one at some point to drive more. We'll see what happens.

Congrats man! We've been on a similar journey for a while now. What pushed you over the edge for the S2000 compared to some of the other cars you were considering?

I've toyed with the idea of getting an 02-03 AP1 and building it up as a TTC car but I keep coming back to the Lotus. I'm not sure if I could step down in performance once I've been on the Lotus/Porsche train.

I didn't even attempt to get on the Lotus train even though the Exige S has been at the top of my attainable dream car list for a long time. I'd be too worried about breathing on a clamshell wrong and totaling the car.

Honestly, it was probably this particular car that pushed me over the edge. It's local, I got to meet the owner and drive it, and it's clean as gently caress. It's a bit more than I've been feeling like I wanted to spend lately while still being half of what I was originally planning on spending. I've come to the conclusion that all of the hassles associated with buying an out of state car more than make up for any amount I might have over payed as well. Funnily enough, I've spent way less time looking at s2000's than anything else. They seem to be so universally loved by anyone with seat time with very few downsides that it seemed like an obvious choice. I also love tiny little cars :3: .

Just one more day!

Changed my oil only to remember as I was filling it up that I did it two weeks ago :doh:The light wasn't on so I didn't reset it, and it came on when I was driving home from Manchester the other night and I was like "well I've been going around to CT and such a lot so sure". TLDR I am dumb

My brakes are still sitting on my floor since it basically rained all week. Maybe if I get motivated I'll do them this weekend but mostly I feel like drinking endlessly :(

On the good news front the place my brother in law has been to get me in the door at wants to meet with me so I'll be going in to talk to them in two weeks. Hopefully I don't grenade it like I did the last one

Got my front brakes all in, just sitting down for a minute and trying to decide if I should carefully run to work now and then come home and do the rears or just do them now. Impact gun life is the best, every bolt came free super easy. The rotors however required mighty smacks with the hammer to unstick themselves from the face of the hub. New England :argh:

You just doing oem replacements? I'm a huge procrastinator so my vote is always for later.

I'm hoping I'll be able to get everything started to get mine registered over the next few days since it might not rain again until Friday! Hopefully I'll be able to get some better pics too. Now I have to get dressed and go set them properly then slam out some claims at work. Then victory beers

Good news update. My brother in law texted me the other day and told me the law firm wanted to meet with me so we are going in next Monday to have a meeting. I talked with him yesterday about everything and he is under the impression it's a slam dunk and they are bringing me in, the meeting is just a formality and to put a face to the name and such. I'm not quite as optimistic just because such is life, but things appear to be looking good at least. Fingers crossed

I've complained before about rock chips and stuff, but drying off my car yesterday I really noticed a lot and let me just say oh my god my poor paint. Why does Honda paint have to be so thin :(

Went out and just drove around for a couple hours today. That's something I haven't done in a really, really long time.

I love this car. It wants you to push it. It calls you a bitch if you shift before 8k rpm's. It laughs at you when you take a corner slow because you're a scaredy little girl that hasn't driven a RWD car in like a decade. It wants to be pushed all the time. I interrupted my drive to take some not great pics:

Like put a front plate on it when I get it registered? Missouri is a front plate state and it's already on there and has probably already messed up the paint. My Golf has a tow hook plate mount which I really like. I might pull the plate holder off at some point and if it looks alright I'll explore other options.

Speaking of my Golf, it's so :flaccid: to drive after the S. If it weren't for the glorious low down torque it would be pretty miserable.

Hey - I guess this is an S2000 thread which is cool. I just got a call from the dealership that services my Accord. Over the winter I half-jokingly said "If someone trades in an S2000, call me" and everyone had a good laugh because no one ever trades in an S2000.

Well, I guess it might happen. They've got a customer who has, as I understand it, a 2000 with 77k miles and might trade it towards a new minivan (sad trombone sound). They think, if he does decide to trade it in, I can pick it up for $10k. Now, they haven't gone through it thoroughly, but they said the only thing that stood out on their test drive was a foggy rear window on the soft top. The car has been serviced its entire life by the dealership.

Would I be stupid to pass this up? And if the owner goes through with the trade-in, and I take it for a test drive and negotiate a bit, what do I need to watch out for on the AP1's? Only stuff I know about is the clutch buzzing and getting a compression test.

edit: comp test for the #4 cylinder or whatever to check for oil starvation issues

$10k on a car with that kind of mileage and a service history is probably a really good deal even if it's a little rough around the edges.

Foggy rear window means it has a plastic one, replace it with a glass one when you have to change the softtop. Check the compression on it and inspect the valve retainers. Keep an eye on the oil level and tire quality, other than that drive it like you stole it

Congrats on the job!

On my car I've had someone mention that I should look at replacing the elastic straps on the top so it will go down all the way and that I should probably change out pretty much all of the fluids in the car. Both things that I'll hopefully get started on in the not too distant future.

I'm sure I'll be looking for a second one to drive more often in a couple months myself. Thankfully I don't really have anywhere to put a 3rd car that isn't on the street and that's not somewhere I want to park anything.

Cool. I'll order a set in the not too distant future.

Trying to get started on my fluid change and I'm already driving around looking for a 23mm wrench because of course you need a wrench and it has to be a weird size.

e: All done. Grabbed a lovely Craftsman for $14. I knew I'd need a 23mm wrench and assumed that I already had one. I might have been able to get a 3/8 socket on there but my set only goes up to 22mm. After getting everything plugged back up I noticed that I'd only used about 1/2 the quart of diff fluid and that didn't seem right. Looking it up, capacity is about 3/4 of a quart. I'm guessing I just had fluid running back down the pump line that made it seem like it was full the first time. So I topped it off. Gonna jump in the shower and then go for a drive if it hasn't started raining to make sure everything is working alright.

I've had the car about a month now and have put 500 miles on it. Absolutely loving it so far. I have never broken the rear loose outside of on purpose in the snow, it's not as easy as people lead you to believe where you will go for a spin if you sneeze at it. As long as you don't do anything stupid you aren't going anywhere, and obviously watch the road conditions for sand and huge bumps. Good tires go a long way as well

It definitely doesn't want to break loose all that easily, even if you're kind of trying. I think most peoples issues arise from loving up in sweeping corners. I'm doing my best to be really careful in that kind of situation. Mine is an '05, so no extra safety stuff. I'm definitely falling in love with the car the more and more I drive it. It really is something special.

Get that poo poo taken care of quick. One thing I'll give the Euro manufacturers is that they love to galvanize the poo poo out of their cars. My Golf has had a scratch on the roof that's down to the metal since 4 months after I bought it new and it's still metal colored through multiple winters and rarely getting washed.

For me, I got the modifry straps in this week and I'll try to get them put in over the next couple of days. Outside of that I've just been driving the car in the evening on my weekends since it's hot as hell and I don't want to drive it with the top up and a/c on like a little girl.
