How is the randomizer pulling moves? Just at random and you got really really lucky with STAB or is it pulling form moves thats make sense of the type?

So I started my own game with White 2, ended up getting a Weedle as a starter while Hugh got a loving hammerhead dragon. But then the first pokemon I saw was a Gardevoir which took me 11 balls to catch but still a nice prize. I also randomized all the item balls and ended up getting an ultra ball at the first item ball. All in all a good start I'd say

Cheren in my game ended up having a Mewtwo as his first pokemon. I got my poo poo wrecked cause I didn't have anything besides kakuna that could hit super effective against it. And it killed him in the first turn. I had to go power level to get through him.
