No, I have a Flanged Mace II and it still took me an eternity to chop down the second boss. I'm doing like 7 damage a hit, even after pumping strength a little (since it's supposed to have S strength scaling).

Big advice i'd give anyone on bosses as far as i've found is to buy many of the fire/lightning on weapon items from the sanctuary merchant. They're 500G each and so far i've found them both super useful.

You can also get a permanent version (of the lightning at least) from completing Leader quests at the sanctuary, that refills its charges when you rest.

The skill tree is super easy, go to whatever nodes give you the EQ you want.

maybe grab the extra potion slots early.

The one thing I can't figure out is why I have a sword that my skill tree will let me equip (level 1 greatsword) but when I equip it, it has a line through it. I can still use it but I have a feeling I'm not getting the full damage out of it.

Also I really wish o knew the difference between the convents.

The swords allow you to use greatswords in one hand at a level lower, or two hands at that same level.

Are you one-handing it? The level one great sword thing says it only lets you two-hand level one great swords I believe.

Hmmnn... I got a ring that says something about setting my minimum Stamina level to one third of the max. Also, sometimes there is a difference between my max Stamina/Health and the health I can reach via healing. I don't think it has to do with dying and going hollow. Any idea what that's about?

Super WIP but there you go. Big difference is where you find the default shrines and the items you get. Devara gets holy buff for their quest item, etc and focuses on prayers

Thanks, I tried this on the next boss and got great results. I didn't realize the quest lightning item was a permanent refill - only done one Leader quest so far and at the time the estus flask seemed like the best choice. I'll be sure to pick it up on the next one.

As you take damage and use spells your maximum health and stamina deteriorate until you die or rest at a sanctuary. Game calls it the wounding effect, at least for hp. There's a ring that reduces it early on.

Best I can work out so far is when you take a certain amount of damage you get "Wounded" and lose some of your max HP. I noticed it when I fought an enemy with fire breath and as my HP went down with each tick of damage (20%ish each time) my max HP slowly got shorter too, up to about 20% less than usual.

That's with me wearing the ring that makes wounds have less effect.

You need marksman 2? Not sure if this is a nobrainer thing or not sorry.

And can't say I've noticed that I'm doing the same damage, bare in mind it will display different values from 1h->2h and different enemies have different armor, and one upgrade isn't huge, etc.

May bare testing from level 1 to like max when I've got the resources for it.

Is there a shortcut or sanctuary near the Mad Alchemist? I've been running to him from the village of smiles, but that seems kind of far. Also, is there any way to re-join a creed you abandoned? Hah, yeah dude. Just go a little right of the ogre that is just before the boss fight. It's probably the shortest boss run a game can possibly have.

Abandoning creeds gives you sin that prevents you from rejoining the abandoned creed until the sin is absolved. There's an Oswald analogue who does that, though she's somewhat hidden.

everyone in the room gets really pissed off, then you have to face a gauntlet of tougher enemies. Any Sanctuary that was part of that Creed will have pissed off enemies in it, but you get an Engulfed heart for surviving the gauntlet and a Bloody Writ. I don't know what those things do yet.

It seems like the game does not want you to go 2 Handed Dexterity weapons like Scythes + Heavy armor since they are on complete opposite sides of the skill tree, and the heavy armor path is filled with + Str nodes that you don't need for your dexterity weapon. There also isn't a great starting class for Pike based weapons. Guess it's pauper!

Pladdicus
Aug 13, 2010
Light armor/heavy/two handed are sort of interchangeable and most weapons have alternative dex/str paths if they're viable but it does encourage certain builds. The +1 stats are mostly irrelevent though, in the long run.

Also holy crap the 2D metroidvania elements begin to shine when you get all the brands.

In terms of your armor to weapon you don't need to worry about matching to armor type, there's like, 3? strength nodes on the way to heavy armor, so it isn't really punishing if you're a dex build and a lot of the light armor skirts mostly willpower with a smidge or two of dex as well.

You can't really get pinned since rolling allows you to pass through an enemy though?

Some of the hit boxes do feel a bit weird though. Enemy attacks seem to reach a little further than they look like they should and I swear my Zwei doesn't have as much vertical reach as the animation implies.

idk, I swear that rolling only worked half the drat time on the same attack as some bosses, it just makes me want to quit playing because of how much of a 50/50 it is. So far it just feels like Dark Souls but with retarded caveats only happening because it's on a 2D plain.

Are you encumbered? Timing fat rolls is nearly impossible on some bosses. Just shed some weight and your rolls get dramatically better.

It's not random. If you're close to the enemy you'll roll through, if you're too far you'll roll against them. Looks like the turnover point is about halfway through the roll animation.
