So is the Friendly Battle just filled with nothing, but 600+ game 70% w/l guys or something? I got my poo poo ruined 6-7 games in a row before I gave up on account of not having fun trying to learn Weavile. On a separate note, seeing as how I'm a poo poo tier newbie here, what should I be doing against Shadow Mewtwo and Gardevoir, they're about the only two I couldn't at least see what I was doing wrong.

The biggest issues with learning zard are getting in, staying in, and knowing when to take the low-risk low-reward option once your opponent has the balls to try and stop you.

Only thing I really know about Charizard is that his Fireball > Fireball > Charging Flamethrower field attack is punishable on block, so don't go crazy with it, but it does stuff (most) ranged projectiles. Also his Burst is deceptively quick and moves him out of harms way for the most part

So I'm in move practice mode and I can't figure out sometimes what it wants me to do, even for basic moves. Like with Pikahu Libre. I'm supposed to do (forward + X . X) So I hit forward and x at the same time, then hit x again. Both hits land. But according to the game, I haven't done the move yet?? What am I doing wrong????

You can hold Forward and mash X here, for example. The only exception are moves that explicitly say they must be timed or that you'd otherwise want to be timed. Make sure you're pressing the correct button and you can hop in Combo Practice mode to see some of the moves demonstrated in combos, like this pikachu libre move.

Machamp needs to get in point blank in field phase as to not have a lovely duel phase, but he is unarguably better in duel if that happens. If the matchup gives you better tools in field phase (some do) consider ending duel phase with flurry punches or regular grab as to reset it asap.

For field phase, you want to cover yourself with the jump Y fists, they're a big slow projectile you can move under. You want to have the A buff on all the time too for cross chop, which travels super far. Forward Y has some armour on it which is useful when close, and backwards A kills projectiles, which is vital. You also want Whimsicott assist. Remember that homing attacks can be cancelled into jumps or blocks (for every character), so you can for example, start with an X attack, then when you get into their projectile range, jump and hit X for the air homing attack to get over their projectiles and score a hit. In duel phase your get in tools vs zoners are Whimsicott assist, upforward A to cover space quickly. and back A chop to kill projectiles. There is also the counter attack dash cancel, but that's honestly a pretty lovely option for Machamp. His dashes just aren't fast enough for it to really help.

If you can read they are going for a slow attack focus punch is hilarious and hits like a truck. After a few of those you start throwing boulders, that comes out real quick and fucks up their attempt to read the timing. If you get them scared, as you are probably playing a literal child, you can walk up counter no issue.

Hm, starting to find some interesting things you can do with Garchomp's up stance. I've been able to get jabs and counters in mid pokken combos. Dig's still broke though, somebody managed to trigger their burst attack while recovering from an attack, mid Dig.
