Hard to argue with this, both literally and figuratively.

At my company every senior leader states that moving around the company and taking new challenges was the most beneficial thing for their development. When asked if they believe that people can do that now they say absolutely yes. When asked what they are doing to enable it they start mumbling.

Hey I assassinated 15 different popes so my favourite cardinal could move up to the top position and be happy, how is that sociopathic?!

What things do I need to take into account/ask for when moving country for a job? I haven't even applied yet but I want to think about what my "stupid to say no" amount is before I ask for the salary range.

It would be moving to a country (norway) where English is widely spoken and used for work but not the language of schooling so I would need international schooling for kids.

The intention would be to go for 3-4 years then return, so we likely wouldn't be buying a home or looking permanent residency.

On my list so far:
Relocation allowance + settling assistance
Car allowance
Cost of a storage unit to store belongings in home country
International school for kids
Living cost delta (rent etc)
Costs and income in renting out home house, rearrange insurance
Travel costs to fly home to see family and friends every few months or so
Visa and working rights
Tax issues

I don't expect all of these to be line items in the offer, but I need to account for them before knowing if the move would be worthwhile.

If they are giving you are bump "out of the goodness of their hearts" then asking for more probably won't go down well.

I would say thank you, take the new job title and interview elsewhere with it. If you get an offer for 80 then you have options. Tldr: BATNA should be improved before entering negotiation.

Take the job, don't tell them until you have to for the purposes of claiming any benefits or entitlements you need to.

If you tell them before there is a risk another candidate has a particular skill that she doesn't that all of a sudden is essential.

If the new company sells things to human beings it is in its interest that human beings continue to procreate, and occasionally this will mean it loses out in the short term. What it is gaining is an increased level of diversity in the workplace and what sounds like a very talented candidate who wouldn't be available otherwise. Hopefully they appreciate that, but sometimes they are short sighted. So get everything signed before hand.

Finally, you don't owe the company you work for anything. You certainly don't owe the company you
don't work for yet anything. Take the job, get that dollar dollar and when the time comes enjoy your time with your new baby!

Something to consider if it is a large corp is just leak it to a newspaper and see what happens. Especially if you arent planning on staying anyway. Things that have been signed off by the union are public domain imo, the negotiation has been concluded. it sounds like a certain UK high street store that trades on being fair to employees, so they might row it back.

Also sounds like an absolute chicken poo poo union - we took this deal because the other side pinky promised they wouldn't do what it says.

I have kicked off my job search! So far I have sent (all last night):

3 Spec enquiries directly to companies I am interested in (with referrals from people I know there)
1 response to job ad at a company I am interested in
2 enquiries to recruiters

Planning on 1 more spec enquiry and contacting 2 more recruiters

Have heard back from one recruiter already this morning. She asked *the question* but I managed to push it away with wording along the lines of "I'm looking to get all the opportunities on the table to compare" which she accepted. Thanks for the guidance on this thread!

My BATNA is quite high - I am looking to change because I have been at my current employer for around 10 years and the longer I stay the harder it is to move, and this point in my career is a good time to move due to experience level being high enough to be a good hire (have necessary quals etc), without being so high that I am pricing my self out of the general market (I am still cheap enough to be an "impulse buy" in job market terms"). This means that there are no major push factors, I am happy to stay for another 6 months to a year if I have to. I am in a specialised area so there aren't that many employers, but I am aiming to get myself on the market and see who bites.
