As I'm not going to be a combat monster (ever, I hate combat) I'll give up on tailoring unless we suddenly need botas, which I can make for as long as the hides hold out. Going back to woodcutting, carpentry and will probably level something else that goes with it as well at some point.

Incidentally, I'm away 4th through 8th April - I have put extra permissions on my gardens in AB if anyone wants to use them as per previous posts..

I started Alchemy on Thursday after thinking for a while about it. I am 23 in gathering and 19 in mining. This means i can get sandstone for bottles/vials and get most of the other stuff by myself. I still took a shitload out of the guild storage to be able to make things. I don't think it would be fun for someone to do those low XP tasks all day just so i can be THE POTIONMAKER.

If i want to do alchemy, i have to supply a lot of stuff myself. And that goes for everything that needs resources. I'd even dare to say every skill i mentioned at the top is a secondary one!

the real question is can you be the potion seller

For anyone Mining 15+ who's looking for a good money-making opportunity: There's a shop in Syrianna Jungle buying Lumps of Coal at 20 Copper each. That's ridiculously high for Coal, especially with our ability to self-source tools because it only takes Iron to mine.

I'm probably going to drain them over the next day or two if nobody else does; it'll pay itself back in a couple of weeks at the latest. Gotta get that Sparkling gear for casting shenanigans.

I'll give out some fabulous prizes to the best ones as judged solely by me. NO THAT'S NOT ME!!

Hey, so, I kinda wanna make a post regarding the tailor profession and how it fits into the guild. Right now, we've got 3-4 people actively trying to power level tailor, including myself. While I definitely don't want to discourage others from pursuing what they want, a guild our size really only needs 1-2 tailors right now. Given enough materials, a single leveled tailor can produce hundreds of items in a day for the guild. A second tailor can act as a backup, producing hundreds of a second item, or filling in when the first tailor isn't around. The problem with having more than 2 right now is one of supply. We've found that a 4 person murderposse is just enough to supply just 1 tailor with the hides needed to level themselves. We now have 3-4 people competing for those hides.

Again, I don't want to discourage anyone from doing what they want, it's just that I'm 6 levels from being able to make a full set of clothes, and I'm a bit concerned that if we have more people pulling from limited resources than what those resources can handle, then we'll end up stalling each other's efforts to better serve the guild. Once I'm able to make the pants, shirt, and mittens for people, then I'll be able to focus on that for a while, and another budding tailor can take over making thousands of bota bags for the guild till they get up to level 36.

My plan was to just hit 16 so I can make linen, since it seems like we have a fairly large supply of flax with garden extensions.

For what it's worth I've been trying to self-fund that with hunting, and only have a few hundred more hides to go before I hit 16. I hadn't realized there was a problem or I would have found something else to do before, sorry about that. I can switch over to smithing since it seems like that's more necessary at the moment with the bar shortage.

If you're self-funding your progress, that's completely fine. My only concern is running low on community funded materials, since we originally started the murderposse with the intent of supplying our cook and tailor with meats and hides to allow them to power level to help server the guild faster. If we had a larger murderposse adding materials to the storages, it wouldn't be a big deal at all, but so far supply has only just been keeping up with demand.

Colin Mockery

Maybe make a storage marked specifically for powerleveling so people know those materials are earmarked for specific people (basically treated as a side project that is just "level the guild's max tailoring"), and murderers (or other gatherers) can put supplies there if they don't want it to be a free-for-all? So people could still supply other people who just want to dabble in tailoring, if they put their hides somewhere else. That way it won't be ambiguous what newbies can take. It'd be like how some bottles are reserved for cooking project, and a bunch of others are for whatever.

That's a good idea, are there enough storages available?

Xerol
Jan 13, 2007

We can make more, we get another "slot" (which are global, so we want to reserve some for IP storages too) every 5 guild levels so we'll have enough for 12 total storages once we hit guild level 55, which shouldn't take too much longer. But I think we'll need more stone blocks. The other option is just a shared house (which would only need logs, but is a nightmare for managing permissions).

e: Also with the way we do guild permissions it wouldn't be possible to restrict a specialist storage to specific people.

Colin Mockery
Jun 24, 2007
Rawr

If we don't have enough storage we can make more.

Also the nice thing about smithing (though it still depends on miners supplying them, and self-supply is probably something you should prepare for) is that the guild has a much higher demand for smithing products AND low-level smiths supply high-level smiths (by making ingots), so if you're low-level or not trying to powerlevel, then turning our iron ore supply into ingots is great, and another smith can turn those ingots (admittedly at a better xp/minute rate) into gear.

Here's what smithing provides:
tools for many classes
Weapons and armor
Bottles for gathering (milk), alchemy (potions), and cooking (citrus coolers)
Ingots for higher-level smiths

We go through a lot of bottles in a day and I got through most of levels 9-20 by making thousands of bottles.

So IF smithing and tailoring are equally attractive to you and you'd rather not self-supply, just make loads and loads of iron ingots.

Edit ^: we don't neeeeeed to forcibly restrict permissions since "don't take without asking first" seems to be fine for cooking project. I think there's just confusion right now on earmarked resources being mixed with non-earmarked ones. (Not that a house isn't still a good idea, if storage slots are limited.)
