This thread provides an organized place for goons to discuss phonebanking efforts for Bernie Sanders with other goons. Phonebanking website To phonebank, get hooked up to a voter information database, or hook up to Bernie's autodialer, and use your phone to make some calls. Introduce yourself, figure out if a person has planned out how to vote and get to the polls, and figure out how they can volunteer, if they want to. Recruiting volunteers, and thus increasing our sick power, helps more than an hour of guiding voters to the polls. If you'd like to feed your efforts into a leaderboard, compete with others, maybe use your efforts to inspire others and spread the word, http://www.berniepb.com/ may be worth checking out. You could even join Pleasure Kevin's berniepb.com bloodthirsty Goon phonebanking group. Various Bernie teams regularly organize and coordinate on strategy. Check out Bernie's phonebanking website if you want to see what his team's got up. Join the callforbernie.slack.com and berniebuilders.slack.com Slack chat networks if you want to coordinate more. blood simple has issued a correction as of 22:24 on Apr 30, 2016 |

Let’s start by covering New York. Lots of delegates need snatching up in New York. New York houses Wall Street and has experienced a goodly amount of history with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. April 19th primary voters must send in their registration today, March 25th, if they would like to vote. Phone Banking and Voter Registration Drive for New York Go to: https://go.berniesanders.com/page/content/nyphonebank/ People can sign up through the DMV, online, using http://bernie.to/NYonline Calling script: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l8l-qlYjswv-gUvqf0ENVmq572hWLwa6etC2esMlMZA/preview Don’t forget to take breaks as you need to. Useful links: https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application If someone meets the eligibility requirements to vote, and has their driver's license or non-driver ID around, they can register to vote up until the end of next Friday (the 25th). Registration happen online and in person. If they want to feel the Bern, they must register as a Democrat to give him their vote. Most, if not all, people you can call through Bernie’s autodialer can already vote. http://www.elections.ny.gov/VotingDeadlines.html Must send in application by March 25th to be eligible to vote in the primary. https://voterlookup.elections.state.ny.us/votersearch.aspx If someone wants to confirm their registration details, you can give them this link if you want to. https://maps.google.com Always useful, especially for guiding people from their homes to the polls. https://map.berniesanders.com Good place to find events and campaign offices for volunteers to go to. Good idea to really press for the volunteering. I've seen it in the official scripts once or twice, but for some reason it's usually not included. I can also personally vouch for your "persistent but gentle specific scheduling questions" method... that's what the people at my volunteer group use on my lazy rear end to get me to keep coming to more and different meetings and its worked pretty well so far! You could also include this berniePB group in the OP: https://www.berniepb.com/t/Goons4Bernie/ But - each member has to be approved by the group creator, so since there are only a few members in that group, maybe you'd be better off just making a new one.

XboxPants posted:This is a joke, but do we know anything about how effective banking is/isn't? Any data from previous elections, etc. I don't have any good information for ya, so I'll relate what I've heard. I want to see some more info. I hear the feedback from phonebank calls gets used to increase the effectiveness of canvassers. While phonebanking can do a bunch to educate interested but uninformed potential voters, and expand our reach as far as getting more volunteers organized, it's not great at getting voters to the polls when total calls made get taken into account. What it does well enough is sort of pare down and update the list of registered voters to provide the best list of people who could potentially go and give Sanders their vote. It's also one of the most evident ways to help Bernie in a place where you can't travel to or vote. Combined with smart canvassers, strong coverage of the lists generated, dissemination of essential voting information to voters, and stuff like organized networks of people transporting people to the polls, I could see a large phonebanking operation providing a great foundation for pre-election and election day work.

Now, let’s talk about Idaho. Politically, people might know Idaho as a little politically red/purple potato hole nestled in between two states that tend to vote Democratic blue. Having lived a state away, I have occasionally heard them referred to as sort of a politically pragmatic, salt-of-the-earth, locally-concerned, agreeable sort of people. They hold their Democratic caucus on Tuesday, March 22nd. Phone Banking for Idaho Go to: https://go.berniesanders.com/page/content/idphonebank/ A stiff script follows. If any of these lines don't pan out in Sanders support, just let them gently off the hook and hang up: Hello, is [voter name] around? Hi, this is [x], volunteering with the Bernie Sanders campaign. Are planning to vote this Tuesday, in the March 22nd caucus? Did you vote in the March 8th Republican primary? May I ask who you plan to vote for? Your caucus location plans to closes its doors when it turns 7 o’clock in the Mountain Time Zone. How do you plan to get out to the caucus and vote? (If they like Bernie and seem excited to vote) We need you to help us get out the vote in Idaho. Can you volunteer tomorrow to help us out? (If Pathetic excuse is given out about "tomorrow") I see. What about [insert day after tomorrow]? (If wavering mewling continues) What about [insert day after day after tomorrow]? Continue as good taste and collective patience allows. Take breaks so as not to develop rear end sores. If someone wants to caucus and is not registered, same-day registration does happen in Idaho - though any unregistered voters would be wise to show up an hour or so before the caucus opens to fill out the appropriate paperwork. Do remind people to bring an ID if they plan to vote. Federal-, school-, and state-issued photo IDs all work. Caucus-goers can also sign a Personal Identification Affidavit, under penalty of perjury (lol), at the polls. Useful links: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/idaho-state-democratic-party-county-caucuses-registration-18644393884 This page lets voters register for their caucus. Helping people sign up can help make sure more Bernie voters get into the polls before the polls close. It also has caucus locations for all the counties in Idaho, as well as the time the polls open. http://idahodems.org/caucus/ Explains the caucus process in Idaho and provides useful tools, like one to look up a voter’s caucus location and a page to register early for a particular county’s caucus. If you run into a super-passionate supporter who likes to talk, perhaps let them know that speeches will be going on and that they might be able to persuade people with their own. http://www.idahovotes.gov/registration_faq.shtml Idaho voter registration FAQ. http://www.idahovotes.gov/YPP_NEW/AmIRegistered.aspx Use or share this tool if you need to figure out if someone is already registered to vote. https://maps.google.com Always useful, especially for guiding people from their homes to the polls. https://map.berniesanders.com Good place to find events and campaign offices for volunteers to go to. What I'd say to people in regards to this issue: Do ask people directly, but if they aren't interested, drop it and move on, and let them know you appreciate them talking with you. I do pick on the caller and particular states in these dumb blurbs, but I do encourage goons not to use critical thought and not be assholes while making calls, as they will be wasting their time and not doing much good. Local campaign offices really need volunteers, and trying to work out a schedule with someone often works, but it's not worth it to push too hard and piss people off. Talk calmly, be gentle, and just listen to people and their tone of voice. Err on the side of caution and use common sense. No one likes a bully, IMO. blood simple has issued a correction as of 08:56 on Mar 20, 2016 |

Utah. Growing up, my father used to tell me that the letters in Utah actually stood for Un-Tolerable rear end Holes. Contrary to what their state name stands for, lots of good people actually hang around Utah, and a goodly portion of the state’s Mormons actually practice having souls. They’ll hold their caucus on Tuesday, March 22nd, the same day as Idaho’s. Phone Banking for Utah: https://go.berniesanders.com/page/content/utphonebank/ Another stiff script follows. If any of these lines don't pan out in Sanders support, just let them gently off the hook and hang up: Hello, is [voter name] around? Hi, this is [x], volunteering with the Bernie Sanders campaign. Take breaks and stop occasionally to purge yourself. If someone wants to caucus and is not registered, same-day registration does happen in Utah. Unaffiliated, Republican, and Green Party voters, etc., can all register as Democrats to vote for Bernie, as long as they will be 18 by the General Election on November 8th and have a photo ID or some piece of mail or bill to use to prove their address. Useful links: https://vote.utah.gov/ You and potential voters can use this page to find out whether they can vote, and where they should go to vote. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jxUE1NsAwetxdeksSks67OFFJ5NWeEG6Tcda130mfP0/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true Here, have an open list of Utah caucus locations. http://utahdemocrats.org/caucusnight2016/ Using some decent but poorly-produced videos, the Utah Democratic Party’s website provides a good overview of how their caucus works. Essentially, the Utah Caucus acts more like a primary than a caucus, and any unregistered eligible voter can vote, as long as they are in line at their caucus location before 8:30 PM. They can leave after voting and do not need to participate in selecting their delegates, though they are advised to. https://maps.google.com Always useful, especially for guiding people from their homes to the polls. https://map.berniesanders.com Good place to find events and campaign offices for volunteers to go to. Arizona, as a state, holds the largest amount of delegates to be won this coming Tuesday. They will hold a primary, and not a caucus. A few big places dot Arizona: Flagstaff, Tuscon, and Phoenix, the city which would not exist if not for the Colorado River being used to pump an assload of water about. Bernie’s wife, Jane, just talked a bunch of poo poo about local crazy Maricopa County sheriff Joe Arpaio while in a “tent city” in Arizona. They will hold their primary on Tuesday, March 22nd.
