AirRaid posted:the UI for the editor is goddamn awful. Just in case you didn't know (I didn't realize it for a while myself), you can switch to "classic mode" in the editor, and never have to think about the console-centric shitfest that it defaults to again. OneDeadlyBum posted:Looks like playing the maps you want online is easier than I initially thought. I was just kind of joining whatever servers that were showing me they had players in them, but making your own room allows you to specify exactly what's going to be played and for how long, down to little details like what order for the maps, how long, which environments, or even your own custom tracks. Your playlist gets sent to the master server, and then a server with your name on it is created. That's good information--I wasn't really sure what was going on with that. Now that i know, I'll probably have a room soon for those who are feeling masochistic and miss the old platform tracks.

AirRaid posted:Played about with the proper editor and knocked up something half decent pretty quickly. Added you and your track to my favorites. I haven't actually tried it yet, but it will make it easy to find. Also, yeah, the thumbnail thing. Goddammit. I did the same thing on my first track and apparently there's no way to delete/redo upload, whatever? Bleh. Edit: Okay, that's pretty fun! I had to add it to a room to play it--is that the way stuff works, or am I missing something? The room with your track is here: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/rooms/5892 I got 40 seconds and change, after a couple of runs. Is there some way to see how that compares to medal times or master/author time? Do we want to make a general "Goon Tracks" room for PC? I'd be happy to add whatever tracks in there people make if they post them... Disclaimer: If something's really lovely, like going around in an oval for 23 laps, I'm not going to force people to play your lovely troll tracks. Anyway, if anyone wants to give this a try, it's a relatively short (master time 50 seconds), but balls-hard valley platform track. I'm curious how long it takes someone to finish it. https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/maps/pqQTwt2PQfdUy6EFhJAKjtSCCK7 My room with the track is here: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/rooms/8601 I'll be adding more tracks to that room that will make you swear a lot. Edit2: I'm on PC and am "aasBandit" on UPlay if anyone wants to add me. Goku, how about adding a list of platforms/users to the OP? aas Bandit fucked around with this message at 05:44 on Mar 31, 2016 |

Call Me Charlie posted:Would this be worth picking up on PC for $25.50? I know the multiplayer is dumbed down but I use to play Nations Forever back in the day and all I liked doing was getting zen, cruising around the track while listening to the radio. I already bought it for full price, so I'm kinda biased, but in my opinion while the UI and various features are a little hosed up, the gameplay itself feels really good. I've driven all the Trackmania games, and this one feels better to me than any of the previous ones. I hope they bring whatever handling changes they made for this game over to Maniaplanet/TM4/whatever.

Okay, another track--I had fun playing around with the new Lagoon environment this time. I really love the boardwalk surface. This one isn't as hard as the previous valley track, but is still very much a trials/platform track. It's also a bit longer (5 CPs) and the AT is about 1:40 (and I hosed up once--it could be down below 1:30 with a clean run). The gravity-warp track surface is fun and different, and lends itself to some interesting stunts. Track: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/maps/Djhia3QhhkOcZHH0lR_8wvVU5Oa I added it to my trials/platform room here: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/rooms/8601 Track screenie: aas Bandit fucked around with this message at 05:45 on Mar 31, 2016 |

AirRaid posted:Thanks! I tried your track and uh, wow. Balls hard indeed. I'm not a huge fan of those stupid hard platform tracks though. I only made it to the 2nd checkpoint. Yeah, it's pretty tough, and where you stopped (getting to the last CP) is probably the toughest bit. The one I just uploaded is a bit easier. I added your tracks to my room but I realized I have it set to 60 minutes. How the gently caress do you change the game mode details for a room? Do you really have to delete/remake the room?! That can't be right, can it? Edit: gently caress it. Remade the room: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/rooms/5892 Someone else link some tracks on PC that they made, and I'll add them too. Edit2: I like 8 better than 7, except that you overjump the tunnel on 8 (at roughly 30 seconds) if you're going too fast. That part sucks--you should never be penalized for going too fast in a normal race track. aas Bandit fucked around with this message at 20:58 on Mar 27, 2016 |

door.jar posted:This game is indeed fun as hell. I'm playing on PC and haven't encountered all the weirdness that others have stated, it worked fine with my XBox controller (although I tend to prefer keyboard). Like someone said earlier, I've been trying to gold everything before I move on (so I'm only up to 83, which is one of my favorite tracks so far and it's seriously just --go play it if you haven't), but lagoon beach...yeah...66 is the only track so far I haven't been able to gold. Part of the problem is that I'm not really used to sand yet, and the turning/handling is pretty different. But I'd like to slap whoever put that strip of asphalt on the one sand block. The gold ghost on 66 is just loving flying too--I've learned a bit by just trying to keep up with him for the first part, but that corner transition from asphalt to sand after the long downhill...I either screw it up, or I slow down enough that the dude just pulls away. I'm still missing something about the handling/throttle/something there. Also, yay, someone else who plays with keyboard!

AirRaid posted:...Stadium advice...Usually if you want to slow for a corner, letting off the gas for a moment then getting back on it at the apex is way better than ever hitting the brakes, unless it's a hard U-Turn or you need to get a drift on. Probably 90% of the time hitting the brake is the wrong choice. Yeah, that's really key advice for stadium. I grabbed your fixed track, and your latest one too, and added them to the GoonTrack Room. Now, if anyone else will create some tracks on PC, so it's not The BearRaid Show. I'm working on a semi-normal track...maybe tomorrow. Edit: Your #13 track with the fixed tunnel has a checkpoint that, if you have to restart from it, you can't get enough speed to make the jump right after. Sorry man. Entropist posted:I tried this on PC, but whenever I have my controller plugged in the cars are just full throttle all the time automatically, and no button or axis I use seems to stop it, so I couldn't really get past the first few tracks like that. I'm hoping they put out a patch for that soon so I can actually play this... I'm guessing that you could probably offer some driving advice for the thread as well...you're sort of bad, but you have your moments. aas Bandit fucked around with this message at 04:42 on Mar 29, 2016 |

H13 posted:With tonnes of swearing and wondering who put that horrible surface in an environment with super-grippy cars, fast roads and freaking roller-coaster pieces. I actually like the wooden surfaces quite a bit, only because it reminds me of the old Coast car from TM1, which would slide if a gnat sneezed on it. The only part of the wooden surfaces/lagoon car that sucks is when you get into a loop. At that point it just becomes silly and normal momentum/physics goes away and the car just slides off in a random direction for no reason. I can't remember the number of the lagoon track with that wooden loop, but it seemed pretty drat random, and I'm hoping it's a bug that will be fixed. And yeah, so far I'm having more trouble with the beach myself than any other surface. And it seems like the ghost cars are *really* good at it. AirRaid posted:

^^^ I'm sad that there's no cross-platform play. I like those wooden boardwalk sections enough that I made a Lagoon track that's 95% those and a lot of boosters...you get up to around 7-800 at one point. It's about a minute long, and I maxed out the build budget at exactly 8500. The track is here: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/maps/7viXWehF1zVVLwRv2E6bu6tWYb0 ...and it's also in the goonRoom here: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/rooms/5892

You should be able to log in on the site and just choose "Tracks" then "My Tracks" from the dashboard to find it? I know that I had to switch to PC from whatever the default space was (PS4?) to find my info. Glad you enjoyed (I think? ) the track.

H13 posted:Updated version: Finally had a chance to play this, and I like this track! Like AirRaid, I'm not super crazy about the light pole, but it's not a huge deal, and the rest of the track flows really nicely! I added it to my GoonRoom, along with my latest Canyon track, which is very short (a bit over 20 sec.) and constructed entirely from boosters and drifts. You're pretty much turboing and drifting the whole time, and it makes me laugh. It might make all of you laugh too. H13 posted:Here's a new track. Fun track! It took me about 10 tries to grab your AT--it's tricky short-cutting the finish there at the end. The flow is nice and I like the little off-road section in there. I added it to my GoonRoom. My only complaint would be that it's possible to drill directly into that first checkpoint sign if you have too much speed off the jump right before it, which kinda sucks. That's something you should never be punished for, especially in a fast drifty track like this. Edit: If you like drifting, you should try that last track I posted...

H13 posted:it seemed like the lesser of two evils. It tends to be a trap that'll only catch you out once. This is true. I ported over/remade a platform track that I had been working on for TM2. It really kills me that the blockmix option isn't available on TT. I rely on that option pretty heavily when working on tracks--not to overlap stuff as much (although I occasionally do that too), but more often to just allow placement of blocks that *don't* overlap (but the bounding boxes do). Anyway, the track is Canyon, and isn't as hard as some of the other tracks in my platform room, but it will still take you a few tries to get through it. Track: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/maps/3XLzR01faNyXNxGzcvEKCwyt3Wk Platform-Focused Room: https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/rooms/8601 (only three tracks in here so far) I don't suppose anyone knows of a way to get a proper free-fly cam in-game and not have to settle for lovely in-car screenshots and tab views?

Entropist posted:I'm still looking for a way to have a free cam while in racing mode, but one way around it is to save a replay (with the E key the replay of the previous run is saved), go into the replay editor (also kind of hidden) and use the free cam mode there. That's how I always used to take my screenshots, anyway. Ah, good idea. I should have thought of that, but I haven't even touched the replay editor in this game yet. Thanks!

AirRaid posted:The tech track was quite fun to make actually, I might do more like that if people like it. The other one was frustrating as hell since the Valley car bounces around like hell and is really hard to predict when you get it airborne, specially off uneven jumps like the dirt blocks. Sorry, but I didn't like the tech track very much. It just felt slightly awkward and just un-fun to me. It might just be me. I liked the other one, except that if you carry too much speed uphill you have to aim pretty much blind for that slot in the cliffs. It's doable--just a little harsh. I added that one to my GoonRoom.

AirRaid posted:Well it's supposed to be a little awkard. It's designed so you need to slow down for some parts and your line through some corners really makes a difference. If you didn't like it though, that's fair enough. Can't please everybody. Yeah, it's certainly a subjective opinion--I just kept struggling while I was driving it and was never able to feel like I was doing well (after 4 or 5 tries). I might have just been sucking that night. I just made another platform track--stadium this time. It's not crazy-hard, although one CP does involve a little trickery and misdirection, but is pretty straightforward once you figure out what you need to do. https://players.turbo.trackmania.com/pc/maps/sUnVJN0nXnLzsxgf83riGctcaQ9
