Okay, look, let's all be real here: The 2015 season sucked. Half the teams had no offensive lines, the final four in the AFC were Brady, Ben, and Peyton AGAIN, Denver won the loving superbowl and I hate everything. So let's just refuse to acknowledge that that five month window of our lives ever happened and decide the rightful 2015 Champion like honest people should: Via shoddy internet simulation. I'm gonna replay the entire 2015 schedule with our trusty whatifsports simulator and I swear to god if Denver wins it again I'm banning myself. I will commence shortly.

I coulda been good with everything happening the same, except the Panthers win the Super Bowl. Broncos cut Peyton, he goes to the Rams and gets sacked out of the league by Week 3.

Well folks I don't say this often but if you missed this one then you made the right choice. This game was a completely one-sided beat-down that wasn't even as close as the scores would suggest. The Browns came out of the gate with a surprising ground game, picking up 31 yards on their first 3 runs to put them on the Jets 43. Unfortunately, the Browns were then called for 2 holding penalties in a row, taking them well out of scoring position. They might have overcome this to start the game with a score if not for a Calvin Pace sack for 7 yards on 3rd and 15, forcing them to punt. The Jets responded with their own running back attack, with Ivory and Powell gaining 48 yards to put the Jets in scoring range before Fitzpatrick makes a terrible decision and gets intercepted by Tramon Williams at the Cleveland 15 yard line. The teams then trade punts until the end of the first quarter. The Browns slowly move the ball up the field for five minutes in the second quarter until Calvin Pace again sacks McCown on 3rd down at midfield to force a Browns punt. The Jets then drive down the field with a pair of 3rd down conversions by Browns penalties to score the first points of the game with a chip shot field goal by Nick Folk. McCown and the Browns swiftly respond with a 43 yard field goal of their own with just a minute left in the half. Ryan Fitzpatrick's Jets don't waste any time and quickly move down the field with shots to Marshall and Decker before sealing the deal with a pass to Fullback Tommy Bohanon. The defense didn't even seem to recognize that Bohanon was a possible target as he walked in for a 22 yard touchdown. The Jets receive to start the second half and after a nice return to the Cleveland 36. The Jets don't have to move far to get into range for another Nick Folk field goal, but managed to use half the quarter anyway. Ivory does most of the work on this drive picking up 36 of the 46 yards gained over five carries. The Browns don't do much with their possession before handing it back to the Jets who remain committed to their ground game for the rest of the quarter. The fourth quarter is where most of the scoring comes from. The Jets start off with a couple chunk plays by Eric Decker and Blail Powell getting 15 and 17 yards respectively to put the Jets in scoring position. Ryan Fitzpatrick throws the ball to Brandon Marshall short of the goal line but he manages to reach it inside the pylon for the second touchdown of the game. Cleveland goes 3 and out giving the Jets a chance to extend their lead even further. The Jets seize the opportunity with the help of a Cleveland facemask penalty and big gains by Decker, Powell and Zac Stacy before giving Chris Ivory the nod at the 7 yard line on a draw play for the Jets third touchdown of the night, making it 27-3. At this point the game is over, but the Browns manage a couple garbage time touchdowns with a run by Isaiah Crowell (failed 2-pt conversion) and a Josh McCown pass to Travis Benjamin. The New York Jets showed a promising start to the league year with an utterly dominant performance against an admittedly terrible franchise. With New England falling to the Steelers in week 1, could this finally be the year that the Jets knock Bill Bellichick off his AFC East throne? sirtommygunn fucked around with this message at 08:47 on Mar 28, 2016 |
