The demo was okay, but the combat felt pretty clunky - I had trouble with locking on to enemies. I did gently caress around with the blocks and got really nice lag.

I'm still early on - haven't left the Quay yet - and it took away my option to drive manually during the day. What's up with that?

This game is good and fun so far. Then again, I just got to chapter six. I'm avoiding spoilers as best I can. Ardyn is totally a villain.

I've been trying to use magic and something isn't clear - when I do something like dual cast, do I need to hold the circle button (PS4) down to cast both times, or will it just do it? I honestly can't tell the difference, but I don't know if I'm doing it wrong.

Still making my way slowly through. I'm level 35, and at what feels like the tail end of Chapter 6. When I was driving with Iris in the car, I drove past the thicket with the scepter (I think) and my buddies gave me the option to go check it out. When I saw Iris had only 138 hit points, I hopped back in the car and finished her quest before going back. Has anyone dragged her through that dungeon? Those spider wasps are assholes - combine with the Naga who toads my entire party, I can't imagine how to keep her alive.

I also got my first actual summoning happen, though I'm wondering if it was scripted. In the final battle on the base, getting the Regalia back, Ramuh made his presence felt. He just destroyed everything and my buddies were suitably impressed. It happened at such a perfect time, and right after I got Ramuh.

edit: I'm not sure what triggers a summon. Seems pretty random and they're more likely to come up as a fight goes on. On the other hand, I tend to not use them since killing monsters with summons only gives Noct experience, unless it's an awful enemy to fight, like any of the bee hunts.

Ugh, those goddamn bees were the worst. Next time I go through there, I know what food I'm eating beforehand.

Wrapped it up last night. Solid B+, would play again. Flashes of greatness, but the vapid quests, difficult camera, and a myriad of other flaws just doesn't make it my favorite FF (which it came close to being a few times).

Wow, you guys weren't joking around when you said the story falls apart leading up to the end. I was able to follow the main thread well enough I think - Noctis was Fantasy Jesus, had to die to end the eternal night that Ardyn caused by manipulating the Empire into experimenting with daemons, and ultimately by killing Luna. Ardyn was originally Fantasy Jesus, but got so full of evil the gods turned on him and anointed another as the scion of eventual Fantasy Jesus (Noctis). He wanted revenge against the gods for turning on him, so he wanted to not only kill Noctis, but destroy his bond with his friends. That seems right. Maybe.

The cutscenes involving Luna after she died would have been great to see beforehand, if only to make the player feel something more when she dies. As it is, she doesn't really have much of a personality other than standard virtuous maiden. I did like the callback to Luna doing that thing to Ardyn after he stabbed her. Seeing that she also used a "time stitch" (still have no idea what the hell that is) to weaken Ardyn just as Noctis was about to make his final attack was pretty great.

The Titan fight felt like I wasn't playing the game correctly. I was frustrated the entire time. The Leviathan fight was utter and complete bullshit. No idea what was going on for the first minute, as I tried to figure out my new attacks. Eventually I just shot blue poo poo at it until I got the cutscene. Ifrit was really cool, but I was a little over leveled for him, so he went down pretty quickly. The Ardyn fight was a dumb final battle because it felt like I couldn't lose unless I really tried. It looked cool I guess, but it wasn't the culmination of the battle system that I spent 40 hours playing with so far.

Gonna take a break for a bit and then dive into the postgame stuff. I have some headlights to find, some fish to catch, and some AP to grind.

Anybody else find the dartboard at the hunter place north of Hammerfell? Getting a bullseye will give you 3 AP, but only once. It was a cool little find.

I discovered something about fishing, at least in getting the fish to initially bite. If this has been noticed and commented on before, apologies in advance. When you drop your lure in, when a fish is attracted, you get the music and the red bar at the top of the screen. That red bar, I've found, will slowly fill up and thicken as the fish gets closer and closer to biting. When the bar is full and covers the length of the screen, the fish bites. I've figured that when you first get the attraction, be slow and cautious. Let the bar fill up to about halfway, and then it should start expanding rapidly. That's when you reel in double time - every single fish has taken the bait when I've done it this way.

Do you ever out-level the empire drops that dropships drop off in the world? I'm level 16 and it drops off a thousand level 16 troops, all with machine guns, that drop my entire party in less than three seconds. Now I'm stuck because the Regalia is next to a swarm of the things. Can you drive past them manually? Ignis just stops the car like a loving moron.

This is some real good design, Square.
Craft some dual/triple magic spells and drop them on the troops as soon as they finish landing. If anyone survives it becomes mopping up after that.

That stupid limitation on hunts you can have active at one time is being lifted with this month's update, making them less horribly tedious. Update's dropping Friday for PS4

Halfway there. The other half would be allowing you to accept/turn in hunts from your car.
