MMF Freeway posted:Is there a way to tell what loot I should or should not be selling for money? I wouldn't sell anything that's petrified or debased, they can make stop or expericast spells. Quintcast stuff is good too, just take a quick look at the element for what it does when mixed in and you should have a good idea. I think the only other recommendation would be to keep 1 and sell the rest for cash.

Happy Noodle Boy posted:Does the game do any scaling for mobs or can I eventually over level my way through some poo poo from doing all the side quests then staying in a fancy hotel to bump my XP even more? Mob scaling is more a function of location unfortunately, though dropshups periodically send out stronger mechs I did what youre planning (I did a few sessions and took a night in the suite at Galdin Quay) and made it to the 50s by Chapter 6 and and smashed through any of the lower level poo poo. You should periodically upgrade weapons. Cid can make some of the strongest stuff in the game (the Engine Blade eventually becomes the 2nd best broadsword and the #1 is in the postgame) but it doesn't really help Prompto or Ignis. If you're going side questing I'd recommend that you at least do enough of Chapter 3 to finish the waterfall dungeon, since that unlocks manual drive and lets Ignis auto drive at night, so you won't be stuck somewhere waiting for the sun to come up to move out.

ApplesandOranges posted:You'll also want to finish Cindy's questline - the last upgrade allows the Regalia to drive at night without being interrupted by daemons. That's less of an issue since you can fast travel between parking spots and not have to deal with demons for 10 gil. Even with the last upgrade, you're still not going to be helped by it when you get off the road, which is where almost every quest actually is. Also you can't finish Cindy's questline until Chapter 8, so you're kinda hosed of you want to do anything before then, unless there's some way to sequence break into the Vesper pool early. 8-Bit Scholar posted:Motherfucking Pitioss! After spending like 8 hours and consuming much alcohol and beating Pitioss, I honestly can't get mad at it other than that one devil statue section. It isn't even really sunk cost, like they put together a really intricately mapped out puzzle platforming dungeon, and that is rare. While I'd like the controls to be a bit better, it's honestly like comparing Castlevania to Mario. Noct jumps a pretty set distance and you can't aerial correct like in Castlevania, so the challenge is more on lining up the jump, figuring out how to roll if it's long enough and then immediately releasing the control stick so he stays in place when he lands. They also manage to hit the Super Meat Boy segment length replay threshold where if you die you might lose a minute, two tops worth of progress, so you aren't forced to repeat 5 minute chunks where it's easier for frustration to set in. The setpieces are good and each room has a pretty consistent central puzzle which are varied. Plus giant spiked skull death wall The only thing that pissed me off was a in the devil room because the grates have some clipping issues and there's one jump that was about 50-50 on whether the game thought I landed vs missed, even if they looked almost the identical in arcs.

ZenVulgarity posted:What's the difference between the plus and non plus holiday packs Right now it's a few extra accessories. Noct gets accessories that speed up armiger rate, but lock the team var, and another that does the opposite. There's also an accessory that nullifies friendly fire for the party (though they'll still have the lingering effects) They also add accessories that grant bonus AP for finesse and time. Theres also going to be a carnival in January, but no one really knows if there's gonna be any difference for the carnival if you have the holiday bonus plus pack at this point.

JetsGuy posted:Oh God, thanks for the info. Yay for another artificial way to make the game longer! You have to rountinely go to every place again! Woo! It isn't routinely to be honest. Only like 2 of the quests even require you to kill the dungeon boss, tbh and you can double up on those if you're patient. Plus they're only the Thicket and the Myrtlewood which aren't exactly long and go by pretty quick. What's probably more annoying is the Jabberwocky bounty forcing you to replay the entirety of the Costlemark cube maze because you don't have some sort of shortcut opening up. JetsGuy posted:So speaking of, I'm assuming other magic comes along at some point or do you just get the elemancy and have to use catalysts to get anything like Holy/Ultima/Flare or status magic Haste/Mute? The only time magic in the game is Stop. Haste would be kinda wonky with the games combat rhythm tbh Flare is what you get when you limit break a predominantly fire element spell. Holy/Doom/Alterna are the ring magics, which is a mechanic introduced much later. Alterna is basically X-Zone. No official Ultima sadly.

Cowman posted:Man I'm pissed at this game now. I was working through Castlemark, having a blast since it was tough but not too tough and very long, and I found a warp point way down towards the end of it. I didn't realize it was a warp point until it teleported me back to the beginning of it. I had passed one earlier so I ran up the stairs and stepped on it thinking it would send me back down but instead it sent me back outside in the middle of the day with the door locked since it only opens at night. Now I have to wait until nightfall and go through it all again just because they didn't put a confirmation on the warp pad. Making me wait until night is also loving stupid but not a huge problem at least. That second warp pad only activates during the day so you can leave the dungeon after it seals itself up. Kind of a dick move, but short of some of the hobgoblin dudes respawning, but the Galvanades and Yojimbos stay gone

The GIG posted:Not to say these quests are actually good, but yeah, most of the quests are "I wanted to do my job but hell wolves are camping in my farm/Wrecked my delivery truck and killed the driver/hanging around wild spices and veggies I use." It turns out that in an urban fantasy world it's hard to get things done when you can't pull night work in rural areas due to literal demons from hell crawling out of the ground. The only one that's kinda lazy is the hunter who has you disarm a bunch of bear traps on a delivery route that he was hired to handle. I'd complain about the first Holly one (checking the steam vents), but that's more of you doing a solid for Holly after she fixed the boat.

Costlemark just has one section that's a horrible slog but the rest of it wasn't too bad. I didn't have too much trouble with Crestholm, I saw the door on the minimap on the way and kinda pieced together what the buttons were doing. I had an issue finding one button but I didn't have any issue with the headlights. That miniboss was something else though

Baron Corbyn posted:Why are they even necessary when there's the option to fast travel out of the dungeon from the map screen? The second one is because the actual dungeon entrance is actually behind the nighttime only blocks, so if you fast exit, you'd have no way to get out of it. Technically you can't exit the lower parts of Costlemark without dropping down a ledge so if someone wanted to leave manually, they'd have to go out via the warp.

Oxxidation posted:You need to pump up the level to Expericastx99 to get the full effect (that's 5 Rare Coins or over a dozen Debased coins, I think). The mob you nuke doesn't matter, it's a flat gain rate per spell. The important thing is to use the Altissia deluxe suite and EXP-multiplying food buffs in conjunction with the Expericasts, otherwise you're gonna be stuck grinding coins to get everyone maxed out. But the Maagho Lasagna + 5 Expericastx99 + suite is somewhere around 300k exp, all in one go. Also doing this once you get to Chapter 9 and unlock the x3 exerpience hotel also is a good thing
