Yeah, that Atlantic article was appropriately horrifying. It's truly amazing how well the system works with how much neglect and overuse has gone into it over many years. It's just a series of quick-fixes slapped on top of each other at this point. The real problem is that to actually fix the fundamental issues, they'd probably have to shut down entire lines for substantial periods of time and redo huge portions from scratch, which would cripple NYC.
