I have been on a grandfathered unlimited data plan on Verizon since 2008. They try so desperately to get me off it. In November of 2015 they announced they were raising the price of unlimited for the 1% of customers who still have it by 20 bucks a month. Through some fuckery I was able to get my line on contract for two more years. So not only do I still get it for 20 less per month, I got an iPhone 5s for $50 which I sold for $300. So by Verizon trying to increase my unlimited data by $20 a month, I made $780 Eat my rear end, Verizon. Though I guess I'll be boned in November of 2017.

How do they try to explain this ? It's not like MB are a limited resource like oil or tuna. I know they have to pay people and electricity and stuff, but giving you another 50 Gb probably cost them 50 cents.

Now I'm faced with the option of switching carriers or paying fuckin Verizon full retail price for a new phone. loving poo poo. Our last PM, who was a huge poo poo but tried to do one good thing, tried to bring more companies in from the States to encourage competition but it got shot down because the few companies that we have invested in our country therefore letting anyone else in is wrong or some bullshit, essentially showing everyone just who's in charge. We're the laughingstock of the world when it comes to Phone/Internet

Canada is like that, only with our Phone/Internet Providers Our government (through the CRTC, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications) told our providers to offer an affordable TV plan no more than $25/mth, and they offered a super lovely plan that ends up costing more than $25, pretty much just daring the government to call them on it.

Professor Shark posted:You know how China can't reign in their banks or whatever? Canada is like that, only with our Phone/Internet Providers They openly divide up the country into zones so that there's effectively only one cable and one DSL provider per area. But it's not a monopoly you see, because there's technically two *internet* providers . They were forced to allow third party ISP resellers to use their lines they build with massive government subsidies, but then just subtly gently caress them over in anti-competitive ways. Like, all the installation and service techs have to be from the megacorp that owns cable or DSL or whatever in your area, and if you're on a third party, they'll randomly not show up, cancel appointments, and just gently caress around because how dare you not want to pay $70/month for a 25MB connection with an 100GB cap. Or that time they started buying up the streaming rights to a lot of poo poo people used to sneak on to US Netflix to get (politely divided between each company naturally), so they could launch their own streaming services. Then made it inaccessible unless you bought a full cable or satellite package, AND paid another $5/month. But we can't have more competition because "FOREIGNERS WILL BE STEALING GOOD CANADIAN JOBS"

Nationalize the internet IMO then ship all ISP execs to Texas for execution. ... ... ... but for real though I think there's a constitutional argument to be made for the creation of a state owned network available to anyone e.g. the USPS
