I've been trawling Icelandic facebook and twitter since the news broke. The consensus seems to be a) the PM should resign b) he probably won't c) he looks like a hosed up egg perched on top of a suit. Tomorrow will be his first day back on the job as PM since before Easter, and there's already a protest scheduled for the reopening of the parliament. Most of the opposition parties have openly called for a vote of no confidence. His own party is closing ranks, but their partners in the reigning coalition are staying almost completely radio silent so far. Should be fun!

Seriously, the Süddeutsche journalists said they and their company would have been hosed if they had published any wrong information. The legal trouble they had to deal with for publishing the truth was already a huge burden.
