A nearby natural history museum has a massive whale skeleton that was endlessly fascinating to me as a child and into adulthood; I looked up the kind of whale it was and apparently they are considered by some scientists to be functionally extinct. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atlantic_right_whale Somber whale fact.
