Originally they were called SEs (standard editions) and were SF4 branded. Those were also pretty hard to find and got discontinued after a year or two. The brawlstick came out a few years later, same stick but with different art. Pic of an SE:

How is Capcom more responsible for the visuals in HDR (a game that was developed in America btw) than in SF2? I'm sure none of the people who worked on SF2's art still work for Capcom, but none of the ones who worked on HDR's art do either.

I don't dislike it or anything, I just don't really get it, I guess. To make games seem closer

I'm not competing, but we applied to show our game at their indie cade, so I'll be there aaalll weekend. Any tips/tricks/etc to have fun and/or just be **cool** would be appreciated. I'm going with a few friends, only entered SF5 and Mystery Game, I'm mostly going to be dicking around playing casuals all weekend. My advice is play as many games and meet as many people as possible. As bad as they can seem online, FGC people are generally cool IRL. What's your game? I'll make sure to check it out. E: oops read the above post that says what your game is.

I played Crystal Control II at combo breaker and it is definitely FGOTY (fighting game of the year) if any other goons are here you should go play it in the indie game area, and also check them out on greenlight. It's basically a 2 player vs shmup. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=626581378 E: no offense intended to anothergod whose game i also played and enjoyed, but CC2 is the truth.

It's a pretty different kind of game. There's no enemies/mobs/whatever you wanna call it, and the 2 players are on opposite sides of the screen shooting at each other

punk rebel ecks posted:FChamp recently ranted on stream how online players aren't poo poo because online SFV doesn't mirror offline play. He was saying this because he kept getting bodied online by top online players. He kind of has a point. Arturo is (was?) #1 online player and he played online all goddamn day, but he has been getting blown up in tournaments. Infiltration plays training by himself all day and bodies everyone in tournament. E: Primarily I think the problem is that if you play that much online, eventually you will body 99% of players you run into and will never be forced to elevate yourself. This isn't SF4 where you can grind out setplay and top 8 tournaments off it C. Viper style.

He's definitely not an online only player, my point is that being ranked #1 online has turned out to not mean much when it comes to winning tourneys, and it may even be holding him back.

Mad Catz, Qanba? Any to specifically avoid, and what's the difference in the price points they have? Mad Catz, Qanba, and Hori are all good. Get a model that comes with Sanwa parts (most sticks over $100 do). The only other differences in the price ranges are the form factor (some sticks are huge which people like because they're more stable on your lap) and if they're multiconsole or not.

punk rebel ecks posted:How durable are the sticks in fightsticks? I'm trying to pull off full circle moves but am worried that I may be too rough with my stick (Madcatz TE2+). Those parts were made to survive abuse in arcades, I wouldn't worry about it. However if you feel like you're being too rough on the stick it probably means you're doing the motions in a really sloppy way which will make you input moves a lot slower than you need to. When you do a full circle make sure you're barely touching the gate.

For a game to be in majors it must have a. high entrants/viewer counts b. publisher money hat or c. both I'd love to see old games at Evo again but it just aint happening unless we have some kind of FGC apocalypse scenario where all the new games/players die off.
