yeah I eat rear end posted:I'd be hesitant to ever use it, because I doubt your managers "backing" will protect you much if someone from corporate found out/witnessed it. Yeah, the "corporate" part should trigger a bullshit alarm before the story even starts. There's not a single corporation in the world that will allow its cashiers (at one location) to freely tell customers to gently caress off and ban them for life over being an rear end in a top hat.

WaltherFeng posted:Real story: I do the same thing. If someone starts screaming at my staff I get on the call and tell them they have exactly one shot to calm down and be respectful, or I end the call. If they don't immediately cool their jets, I hang up the phone. I've revoked phone privileges from a few people for repeatedly harassing or disrespecting staff members and given everyone permission to immediately refuse a call from them if they try to call again. One guy got so bad that I told him I would refund him his money and ban him from doing business if he kept his poo poo up. He had a hyperventilating, screaming, crying tantrum on the phone because he misread our website and didn't meet the requirements for a certification and we wouldn't give it to him until he did.

One of the best ways to engender loyalty in your staff is to be fiercely protective of them. Too many places treat the customer as god and staff as disposable, but you quickly realize that (unless you have a very small or niche business) there will always be more customers to replace the bad ones you lost. It's better to have good staff who trust you than as many customers as possible, especially as they'll gain experience and you'll end up with a very competent crew who knows you have their back. I forgot to mention, I did throw one of our board members out of the building. He tried starting a fight with me in the lobby over a (possibly intentional) misreading of things and I opened the door and told him to leave. He was so offended that he quit the board the next day, which everyone was extremely happy with.

Good thing he went down the entire aisle telling every single person on the flight (including the flight attendants) that they had to sit still and let him run off first because he’s the most important passenger.

Skwirl posted:Not that surprising. Plenty of places in Seattle with more than one Starbucks in eyesight. At least with Starbucks it makes sense because those places tend to get huge lines, so opening multiple stores helps spread the market out to a more reasonable pace. We've had a few fast food locations near downtown Orlando close recently because they were opening up down the main drag from each other, but never had the business to justify having multiple locations within a 4 minute drive. People would just go to whatever was closest if they wanted Steak n' Shake and ignore the other unless they were on the other end of the road, which caused them to cannibalize sales from each other.
