Somehow I had completely missed this thread.

I'm in Playthrough B, and finally finished that Parade Escort sidequest. The robot dude giving up on peace and love as he talked about how all his friends are probably dead now hit me a little harder than I expected. :smith:

Here is my current theory at this point in the game, about halfway through Playthrough B. I think YoRHa is a giant reference to...Yoko Taro, Hana Kikuchi, and the letter R which has probably become sentient. It might even be the capital one from the title of this very game. I think these three have been running the show this whole time and I'm guessing I'll probably be fighting them at some point.

So I just got my 80% Quest completion trophy upon finishing Speed Star.

For anyone else still having trouble, starting the self-detonation as you fall off the first building and then dashing out of it as you hit the ground seemed to do the trick for me. From there just dash dash dash until the goal.

This change to how loading and saving works in Route C is super dumb.

What changes?
Namely that if you happen to die it spawns you at the last Access Point you saved at instead of at the last one you actually used.

It's nothing you can't really recover from but it just adds extra tedium to the game, which I'm not really fond of since I was already questioning how much playing through Route B really adds to the experience of Automata's story.

I finished Route C, getting Ending D. After how disappointing I found Route B, Route C was a hell of a lot better.

Loved 9S going insane, thought the fate of Pascal's village was sad as poo poo, and loved the unexpected WTF that was going into the reconstruction of the library from the first NieR.

I wish this game were a little more generous with the rare enemy spawns and item spawns. Like I'm at 93% Unit Data but getting that last 2% just to complete the Reconnaissance Squad quest to get more Elaborate Gadgets while still also having to farm Simple Gadgets anyways just to upgrade Pod C feels like a bit much.

Did they really have to include the cliche "character moves slowly here's a countdown" mission thing. Because gently caress that poo poo the when you're infected and moving slowly

Not as bad as the forest in Zelda BOTW tho
That only bothered me when I somehow got knocked all the way down by the City Ruins: Cave Access Point and couldn't climb up the ladder there because of the infection.

That segment really does seem like the inverse of the Jean-Paul ****** quest to me. If you do the Jean-Paul quest as soon as it becomes available, you end up having to run across a pretty significant portion of the map you've uncovered by that point in the story not only once but twice. It's a bit frustrating, but when you get fast travel about an hour into the story later, it really made me appreciate just how useful being able to teleport around really was.

When you're infected, you're running around a part of the City map that I thought was already a bit annoying to navigate to begin with, at least at times. However, when you can't jump as consistently as you used to do, when enemies you could thoughtlessly smack away before not only are more dangerous but can actually threaten your ability to merely traverse this space etc., it did make me reconsider the kinds of movement I had had before and perhaps been taking for granted by that point in the game.

It's still a bit annoying to play through, but it's a nice way for the game to make a point about the mechanics you're using that's a bit subtler than what most others would have done.

In my experience Emil was more likely to change locations if you physically walked to another area and then came back, instead of teleporting.

In terms of gameplay it's just 3 arenas with different gimmicks, not really worth the price. However, it has some pretty cool minor story stuff at the end. So if you're willing to blow $14 or however much it costs for that, yeah it's worth it.
I liked the story bits in some of the arenas. Also the weird rear end live action music video that ends with a doll of 2B getting destroyed sure is a thing.

How do I become good at fights?
If you're playing on Normal or below:

1. Get and Equip some Offensive Heal and Deadly Heal chips.
2. Just start mashing buttons at random. Things will end up dead and killing enemies will heal any damage you take.

I also messed that up.

Once you get to the right spot if you keep loving up the fishing the "TWO DAYS LATER" title card and the cutscene after that where Nier gets all pissy about being unable to catch the fish is legitimately funny IMO.

Yeah it's really cool how that comedic bit is replayed again as tragedy in the later part of the game, when 9S is destroying the different 2B copies.

As much as I enjoyed Nier changing into a series of text adventures and then a survival horror game, I didn't really like being forced into a huge boss battle on going back to town with only 2 medicinal herbs and one healing potion. The isometric dungeon crawl made up for it, though.
That happened to me with the final phase of the boss in the desert temple place. By time I got to the final phase of the boss I had run out of healing items and was down to 1 HP so I had to clear that section without taking any damage.

It was fun IMO.
