There were a lot of problems with the way she was handled in WWE, but I always thought of her as a pretty cool role model in the sense that she was a woman who could foot it with the men on a relatively equal basis. Everything about her was double-edged though, when she had a hulking physique she could do big power moves and it was applauded but also mocked for making her "freakish" or "mannish". When she got all that plastic surgery, it was nice to see somebody who didn't fit the traditional "hot chick" look not only being celebrated for her beauty but being completely confident in herself... but that only came about BECAUSE she got plastic surgery, which tacitly expressed that she could only be "sexy" and confident in her looks if she changed to a more feminine constructed ideal. When she left WWE I thought good for her because I figured it was probably going to be mentally and emotionally better for her to make a clean break, and it did look like she had some potential to be a (albeit minor league) celebrity in her own right. But she just went completely off a cliff and it was sad to see her life spiral down out of control. When I heard she'd basically retired from public life I thought maybe she'd found some kind of inner peace or at least acceptance of herself, but it seems like she never really came to terms with all the issues she was dealing with. In the late 90s she could have been somewhat of an aspirational figure to women. In 2016 she's dead at the age of 45 having gone from one low to the next, and that's drat depressing

Scumbags.

From being the first woman to compete in the Royal Rumble to starring in a Marvel Porn parody as She-Hulk, and now she's dead. Her induction to the HOF will be a farce and everyone knows it. E: not that I'm denying that the HOF is a farce, mind you.

I think it's important to note that she was such a big deal there was a time period where tons of people were getting booked as knockoff Chyna. Nicole Bass is the obvious one, but during my cousin's (who is a similar level of "famous in the 90s") brief wrestling career she was also booked as basically knockoff Chyna until they realized she couldn't wrestle and made her a manager.

Didn't Angle also take up WWE sponsored rehab when he got so hosed up he wouldn't accept the TNA Hall of Fame award? As far as I can tell with the WWE rehab program, if you worked for WWE at any point in time, you're covered, no matter what you've done since then. Even if its for publicity's sake, it's cool that WWE does that. E: From my 5 minutes of googling it does seem that Angle did indeed take WWE Rehab when he got hit with DWI in 2013, which was during his TNA tenure. There's actually a case of them paying for rehab for someone who never worked for the WWE, but I can't for the life of me think who it was. They do have limits though on who they will pay for. I believe they stopped paying for Hall to go to rehab when it seemed to be doing anything for him. This news is poo poo. I wish she had gotten the help she needed.

I think the most disgusting justification of this was during the 90's steroid trials were Vince tried to excuse their use by pointing out that wrestlers were wrestling three hundred matches a year, and the incredible toll it took on their bodies. They were only doing that because he was the boss and was making them wrestle three hundred matches a year.

still bizarre that when steve austin asked HHH why they couldn't mention Chyna, he brought up the whole "for legal reasons and stuff you wouldn't want your kids to see" yet here he was talking to a dude who beat his loving wife, a skeleton the WWE locked away HARD.

(though chyna was almost certainly the former)) worse than dudes abusing their spouses. those whores/sluts/whatever your preferred derogatory phrase is obviously deserve everything coming to them, but boys will be boys

The other thing that has always got me about this is that HHH pulls the whole "stuff you wouldn't want your kids to see" thing when Waltman regularly shows up at events and gets name dropped and used in backstage skits not to mention getting the whole cameo at WM in the Sting match.

She also accused HHH of abusing and raping her. That revelation was made only a few years ago, so she probably figured that she was never going to be welcomed back into the company again, so why not just spill it. The problem is, the way they threw her out looks very bad for the company. For all the good WWE does for it's employees, for all the stories about paying for people's rehab, Vince signing Regal after Regal vomited and passed out on his table and sending him to rehab, for everything they've done to try to help Scott Hall see a few extra years, it looks from all appearances that they offered Chyna nothing as her life turned into a mess. And they did that because her termination was personal with the highest office. And they continued to ignore her since the day she left. So, this is a really a touchy PR issue that was inevitable and left to fester for twelve years without comment whatsoever. How they handle it will be interesting. TNA also had a blonde who was brawling with men for a bit, even right down to coming out of the crowd to interrupt a match and the announcers referring to her as "that huge amazon" just like they did with Chyna. And then there's Beth Phoenix, Awesome Kong, Kharma, etc who either competed in the Rumble or held down that "I'm so huge and strong that it's unfair to everyone else for me to be in this gender silo" image.
