I admit that it's probably far too ingrained to just scrap it, but there are countries in Europe offering that alternative to all partnerships, which is a good step.

Is it the self-righteousness? Is it the author treating the words and beliefs of political philosophers like infallible gospel, seemingly refusing to consider the possibility that the historical figures he respects and admires were flawed people like everyone else and may have had questionable views?

Is it the fact that he's so blatantly disregarding any evidence against his ideas, just so he can declare there never were any in the first place?

Is it the shocking lack of empathy and understanding coming from a supposed ardent leftist?

Is it the fact that he'd so willingly ruin the lives of all of us here in this thread just because he can't accept that his role models weren't flawless beacons of humanity?

Or is it the fact that he's a fundamentalist zealot who treats Stalinism as if it was his religion?

In the past year or so I've come to realize that the whole left-right divide is really secondhand in a lot of ways, what really matters is authoritarianism vs liberty and as much as horseshoe theory is derided by people I think it holds true in a lot of ways. Both the extreme left (communists) and the extreme right (fascists) are authoritarian as hell because the only way to get humans to comply with systems that are against human nature is through force. Without liberalism none of the progress that's been made in the last 40 years would have been possible so even if its a lovely system, and I concede it is in a lot of ways, for gay people it's still absolutely the best system around and I have trouble understanding gay people who rail against it either from the left or the right.
