I binged through the first three seasons and then a couple of episodes from S4 in a week.

- First season and half, up to about an episode or two before the Tony clone was introduced, were page-turning tight.
- I expected to like Helena and Alison the least and ended up liking them the most.
- Very prominent Subarus and Infinitis and conspicuously brand-erased German cars.
- The Neolution going from a front to a controlling layer of the conspiracy ouroboros between S1-S4 is pretty dumb, but the worms and biomods are sufficiently creepy.
- The show is unashamed about putting unneeded characters in storage. Cal, Alison's kids, Tony, the beautician clone, Kendall.
- One of Helena's twins are going to absorb the other to create a chimera just like Kendall is, and that is going to be a major plot point for a short while.

All in all, it is a very entertaining.

It's way, way too far into gestation for one twin to absorb the other. That's at like the blastula stage, before you even know there's twins.

They wrapped up the Beth story and got rid of the worst actress on the show in one episode, good stuff.

Also hopefully Clone Boy Toy didn't vomit up too many of his pills.

Asian Lady just usurped Susan Duncan. She doesn't give a gently caress about clones, she's all about those weird cheekbots and messing around with actual couples' genetic material, even if it leads to the occasional weird Dark Souls baby we saw last week. She sees herself as a pioneer in the field of genetic modification and has already monetized it instead of researching it (it's pretty hazy how involved Susan is with this side of her business, my impression is that Asian Lady runs it while Susan mostly farts around with Rachel and her CBT).

Both arms of the Duncans' cloning project (the LEDA clones and the boy clones) are just competition to Asian Lady (if they ever manage to deal with the glitches / whatever's killing Cosima), which is why she wiped out Cosima's research and burned The Chain-Smoking Original. Without those her idea is that most of the clones will gently caress off and die sooner or later. What she doesn't know is that appearantly Ditzy Blonde Clone was there when Cosima's Dr. Girlfriend got shot in the parking garage in the last finale (after that one creepy doc tried to spit one of the cheekbots into her mouth and failed).

It's nice to have an antagonist who's just sick of all this clone business for once, this might be the most straightforward plot they've ever had.

Also Scott's a loving idiot for going OH HAY FREE HARD DRIVE LET ME JUST PLUG THIS IN instead of spending the 50 bucks for a 1 TB HD to give them the data on.

I...didn't say I didn't understand what happened, only that I don't get where they're going.

Cosima is hosed, the Castor bloodline/plot has now been rendered...completely pointless, S's mom plotline is now completely pointless, it's basically like they erased anything that happened the last season.

I remember hearing about Orphan Black when it first came out and finally watching it shortly after the end of the first season, and getting completely hooked. Ended up binging all of it in a few days, one of the first times I had ever done that. It's really one of the most suspenseful seasons of any show I've ever seen.

Yeah, it kind of looks like the bad guys have won. The protagonists have lost all the stuff they needed to not die. The people who wanted to exploit the protagonists, and therefore at least wanted to keep them alive, are basically hosed. The ones who are currently on top have no interest in keeping the clones alive and would presumably not hesitate to kill them if they get in the way. Maybe they can still expose the illegal human experimentation, but to what end?

I was 100% expecting this to happen and was kind of disappointed it didn't. Killing off a founding Clone Club member mid season would be pretty ballsy and would set off Sarah big time.

(edit)

vvv But that doesn't make sense either, because to inflict cruelty you have to have caring/feeling, even if that emotion is negative. Killing her is like euthanizing a lab rat if she doesn't care, it's a liability to keep it alive if you don't care about the experiment anymore.

It's a cliche villain move. But I think Evie legitimately cares that little for the clones. They're obsolete, useless, and powerless. She probably thinks leaving Cosima to slowly die, stewing in the totality of her loss, is crueler anyhow.
Of course, it never works out that way. Makes for a boring story.

So what's the point of the clones? To take inorganic augmentations without issue? Like that one clone's crazy camera eye?

I don't really care about Rachel's storyline this season but the random imaginary swan that showed up was worth it. I thought she was going to say "You're dying Charlotte and one day I will bury you" instead of "I will die too." Not the greatest mom.

They were created in the 70s / 80s. Illegally. The point of them was to see whether it could be done, at least for the LEDA clones. The male ones were made for military service. Not every loving illegal experiment has to lead to suerpowers.

The camera eye is another thing Susan / Evie developed in the 30 years since then, like the cheekbots.
