Thanks!

This game is wonderful solo. It's Diablo + Super Stardust but it has a very strong personality of its own. The alien designs are all really cool and blasting them hasn't even slightly began to get boring.

This game is great. I really enjoy the ohshi experience of solo but the co-op business is where it becomes the greatest. I appreciate being able to jump in and play the entire game with randoms that smoothly and flawlessly. Gonna do a Bio-specialist that way. So nice.

The worst is the ones who want to do the long walks to complete ever optional challenge. There are more challenges next mission man, come on!

I joined a game with invasions turned on. Higher levels dudes would drop in and slaughter someone and then disappear. Not too fun. Maybe at level 30 it will be more even.

for saboteur i highly recommend ignoring all the melee skills
as sweet as the plasma swords are, shotgun covers the same arc and kills in two shots instead of one so whatever and those points in stealth, athelete, and air strike will go much farther towards keeping your frail rear end alive vs trying to be a melee class.

On the other hand, my SMG that drops a grenade on melee and revolver that shoots a boomerang on melee are making close-quarters pay off. And I gotta say the skill that lets your power strike arc give you health back goes together nicely with the swords, especially solo.

Disagree! I don't see what the worth of cloaking is, those points are better spent getting to the second last tier of plasma sword at least. The sword can pretty much erase one or two chunks of medium sized mobs and buy you a lot of breathing room with hordes. Shotguns are fine, but what your goto secondary is will probably be up to luck. I have a legendary powershot I would be dumb not to use, which is fine for lines of dudes but if something in my face needs to die while I'm reloading I am swording it.

I am on world state 2 now, pretty much new game plus. Difficulty/rewards ramps up and a few new enemies seem to show up more often than before. Also unlocks bounties you can take that usually require you to get 5-20 kills of certain enemy types with restrictions on weapon use or location. Can be a little frustrating hunting them down during regular play if you want to stay on veteran, dying resets progress.

The assignments are cool but it kinda sucks to get one for a place you don't have unlocked yet since the campaign restarts, which is my own fault sure, but the rewards are so nice!

Do you ever get pieces of equipment that reduce cooldown cost of abilities? I like them and all but I feel like I barely use them, I think I would enjoy this much more if it had a constantly ticking cooldown on abilities.

If you want some cakewalk missions to grind on just set it to rookie. Or join World 2 games started by folks of lower level than you, difficulty is set in relation to the host I think.

It seemed kind of bullshit to me. I was hosting a game (with invasions turned off as far as I am aware, can people who have it turned on join as a friendly and force it on or something? Or I guess maybe I turned it on accidentally or it was a bug?)

The invasion itself wasn't so bad... the first time. I had one random teammate and while we took some damage we managed to kill him before he killed either of us. The same dude just chain joined as an invader, every time he either killed me (the host) or we killed him he'd be back in a minute or so, same guy every time.

Some observations after playing the game for a bit:

  • Hardcore is, as always, where the fun is.
  • If you play Softcore on anything less than Veteran, you're a dweeb, and the game will be tremendously dull.
  • After you do the spaceship mission, you can go back to the South American mission to farm and do bosses and Challenges, the latter of which just opened up. You will get some great loot and some tough enemies.
  • The difficulty after the Spaceship is no joke. If you play these the first time as Hardcore, you might very well die, as awesome as you think you are. On Professional, too. Some of the mechanics also change without giving anything away.
  • At least on Hardcore, you'll want at least one crowd-clearing (anti-Horde) weapon (Shotgun/Minigun/Flamethrower; Shotgun is a requirement as far as I'm concerned). The Boomerang is pretty much better than anything else, especially for clearing crowds and straight lines of mobs.
  • Re-rolling is very expensive, but if you're around the Spaceship level, you might want to explore re-rolling your high-level purples to save your bacon on Hardcore.
  • Crafting/Upgrading: Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. Always You can boost your damage output a lot. The white sockets can fit whatever; the coloured rings require the particular part, I believe. Don't upgrade your materials, unless you've got at least 10, since you'll risk not having enough parts for upgrading.
  • Fighting in open areas will kill you. The Horde should be a relief for you, if you know what you're doing, since you'll get a bunch of ammo and health. You may need to use one of your active AOEs, if they crowd you too much on occasion.
  • If you play Tank in a team without upgrading your Shield first, you're a bloody idiot.

Specific to Hardcore:

  • Surviving solo on Hardcore becomes increasingly unfeasible; you have to face Horde alone, and you can take turns diverting the attention of enemies
  • There's no shame in taking down the difficulty a notch in Hardcore every now and then. ESPECIALLY when soloing.
  • Start off upgrading your passive at the bottom. It basically revive you, when you die and more, but I can't figure out the cooldown mechanic.
  • Being cocky and rushing ahead will get you killed eventually. Evidently.
  • Oh, and if you're in a bad spot, you can just go to the menu and quit. It's kinda dumb, I guess, but maybe they'll nerf it with a timer like Diablo. For now, use the hell out of it.

I will say that it is a bit disappointing that:

1. Skill cooldowns are super long most of the time which makes things a bit boring. Maybe scale down the cooldowns and scale down damage/effectiveness?

2. Passive skills are the same exact thing across the classes. It shouldn't be that hard to come up with good synergies for each of them utilizing their specialties.

they aren't cool downs. you need to collect tokens to fill them up.

After picking up a gun with the same but Boomerang, you can understand why I was excited to see an SMG drop with that.

Then I learned it put the grenade at my feet and welp. Not quite as awesome.

Does rerolling sockets change them anymore than different color? Got a new legendary primary and unfortunately it doesn't have a special socket. I rerolled like 4 times and all that changes were the colors, it seems the socket count remains the same. Either way, I went from a level 13 14k DPS primary to a level 19 52k DPS primary :haw:

I meant it more in the sense that the time in between when you can use them is generally long because of the requirement to collect the tokens. I think it would be good to have more of a reliance on skills and create a timer with tokens that speed them up instead of requiring collecting them.

Having the classes be a bit more diverse in their roles would be great. Why not have a bio-gun for the Bio Specialist that has AOE or DOTs or a healgun similar to TF2? Or have the tank have some sort of aggro skill. Stuff like that. I mean we are treading the line with serious RPG mechanics with the loot drops and weapon stats, why not push that a bit more?

Also, there is a disappointing amount of weapons. The game is a blast to play but it just misses on a few things that I feel would really make it amazing.

Melee + dash away is how I use it, turns out to be an insanely handy crowd-control form. Just a waste of a secondary weapon slot being a lv19 rare Powershot in my opinion.

So much loot drops online in NG+ Veteran, this is hella Diablo. Just wish there were a bit more choices in weapons, like instead of being stuck with SMG always on Saboteur etc.

Going through NG+ online I'm happy if the host doesn't push us towards the helicopter at the end, we all need gear and levels. I wish I could take screenshots of some of the awesome chaos, even made it slow down once when hell broke loose in several hell already breaking loose, but my fingers are just so happily busy.

Solo it's a cool solid sci-fi topdown shooter challenge, multi it gets so much better.
