So far I think I like the bio specialist the most. That poison ability is insane when you get the final version of it plus free heals on demand. The tank is unkillable if you beeline for the shield ASAP and the health passives. I really wanted to like the saboteur but it's not really working out compared to the other two.
gently caress me. I've been playing for four hours and didn't notice. I haven't even gone past the second level yet because I wanted to do the other difficulty levels. :stare:

Anyway. Bio specialist definitely seems to be the middle of the road / solo class from what I've seen so far. Nice long-range primary, heals and the nano swarm is basically a replacement for buddies. Only complaint so far is the invasion missions don't seem to have much of a balancing factor applied to them. Lost a level 3 reward hog because the game decided to drop a level 17 on our level 8 party. :argh:

SMG gets better as you progress and start bathing in legendaries and top tier cores, I'm killing more with my heavily kitted out one than anything else. Bio-specialist would be my pick for soloing and hardcoring absolutely, they get insane at top tiers laying fields of death.

Seems like invasions let you invade anyone with their game open to invasions as long as you are in the same world level, do not do the mothership ever and you can rock lv1 matches should the host be silly and enable it. Hmm.

tank is pretty unstoppable when you exploit the weapon switch reload feature/bug. charge with plasma shotgun, as soon as the reload bar comes up hit triangle and fall back with the energy gun until the reload bar pops up and then hit triangle and repeat.

What's the post-game/endgame like on this one?

After you beat the campaign it goes into ng+ which is a default +3 to enemies, and half way through the story again it becomes +4. There's no ng++, so at the end you have all levels available to run and do in-map events and complete assignments. There's also UFOs which are short treasure hunts. Then there's the Ark Ship. It's 6 levels I believe, and at the end of each level you can choose to get loot or go deeper. If you die you fail and get nothing. Iirc no loot drops outside the loot room, which I think is kinda dumb. Running levels on veteran in coop is lots of fun at end game.

In case its not clear from this post assignments are basically destiny bounties to kill x aliens with y weapon

Got to 28 on my Sab before deciding I was sick of that SMG and having bio teammates that are lovely about healing. Started over as a bio and like it so much better.

Also not sure why anyone uses any secondary but power shot. The AOE area is just so much better than the other options with the way things line up when pursuing you

seriously where the fuck did this genre come from
I preferred the plasma shotguns until I got a legendary supershot and now it's the only gun I use. Everything short of a commander dies in one or two hits.

I've started to understand the saboteur now with combining cloak+air raid+max dash passive. Dashing like a madman into groups is awesome and with little risk thanks to the cloak and dash invincibility passive. The smg is pretty lovely unless you stuff it full of blue and yellow cores.

Just unlocked the Ark ship - I think I'm not going to be playing loads of this game in the near future, as my interest is tailing off a bit, but I'd definitely buy some DLC for it when they sort some out. It's a good time loot machine.

Well, the heal does take 4 recharge orbs so it's not like its going to be up every time you want it to be

Oh I know. I've played both. You can tell when a bio is only using it as a personal heal though instead of helping the group.

the rng made an error in my favor and gave me a legendary primary that does 16000 dps and a legendary secondary that does 17000 dps in the same level and i'm only like level 16. also i now drop a grenade when i'm hurt and my bullets spark to enemies past the ones i'm hitting.

Holy obnoxious 60fps fetishist christ at that DF video. Surprised he didn't bemoan the lack of a four way splitscreen mode that didn't degrade the graphics one bit but also ran at 60fps for all viewports.

You seem to take like 2-3% of the damage of your own grenades that the enemies do (where I'm at in the game) but still :ohdear:

The only thing I'm disliking about this game is the host teleport. Somehow having a tiny bit of freedom before being snatched away is more frustrating than just having to share a screen space.

it seemed like a fair look at the technical aspects of the game to me. they didnt say it was a bad game because its 30fps just that it would be improved if it was 60 which im not sure you can argue with?

Weapons that have a damage ability like boomerang on shooting or lightning on shooting really make assignments harder. The boomerang and lightning don't count as kills with that gun. So kill x with primary/secondary is a lot harder and I've found myself having to shoot other enemies first to set off the ability and then kill my target. It might not be as much of an issue when you're weaker but my primary does 1million DPS and even on veteran I instantly kill most things (solo). Also gathering cores is a PITA.

Highest cores I've seen drop have all been 2s, might have been 2-3 total level 3s ever that I've seen drop. That's the pain in the rear end.

One trophy wants twelve sockets in a lv30 legendary filled with maxed cores?

Schroeder91
Jul 5, 2007

Yeah that trophy is painful. I dunno if I've ever seen a 3 drop outside the Ark ship. The deepest I've been is level 2 and then went for my loot, and the chests drop level 3 and 4 cores. Maybe finishing Ark ship can drop higher levels, but if not that's still pretty good.

I believe it's a random chance because I had a weapon that threw out boomerangs when taking damage and it doesn't fly out every time.

If you want to test if it's working go stand in a Sentinel beam and it should go apeshit.

I did this and could have stopped it, but nothing in nature ever follows a gaussian curve. Sure, they'll tell you that it does. They say that every five minutes someone dies in a car accident, but how often are there seven hundred and sixty one armless and legless corpses in one hangar?
Was originally going to focus on Biospecialist but now that it looks like they have become fairly commonplace I've shifted to Saboteur. Really digging the whole cloak, shank for health and extra damage, uncloak rhythm it has going.

The big problem with the SMG is they have a weird "wind-up" time, but typically a really small magazine. I've been getting lucky with my core rolls and have one that negates that completely. 36 rounds is plenty, at least 3/4ths of it is spent at the peak rate of fire.

You need luck with SMG drops and playing solo to be able to do the tap/doubletap action on most scrub-enemies throughout the path to lv30 legendaries in all slots. When you start grouping up in world2 and running Veteran games you need to hold R2 and the windup starts to suck. 26+% critchance in mine and it chews targets up, feels like the right way to go.

I was surprised they got it up to 4 players local co-op. I'm guessing they lowered the distance you can separate from each other so the screen doesn't zoom out much.

I will probably buy the DLC and get back in at some point and want to try out the 2 new difficulties with a team. I put the game down before getting into the max level loot chase or ArkShip runs but not for lack of enjoyment, new gear and ability to mix and match primaries/class will help.

Same here, but starting fresh! And maybe on hardcore :getin: though biospecialists really murder the framerates when specced right

Played like four hours total of Alienation today and had a blast, the game is still real great. New difficulties will probably bring it up to Dead Nation level ruthless difficulty and ammo sparsity.

What I have left to push myself through to do is to take biospec from 8 to 30 and then start that third class that I've never touched. And to try to get a freaking 12 slot.

Here's what you can do with a 12 slot weapon, taken from a blurred as hell bit from the shared media tab in the home screen, why do they never drop for me :argh:

I'll be starting my first TANK character on the fifth with the patch, hardest difficulty, will be happy to squad it with at least one more goon that's starting anew. PSN name is my username, voice-chat not necessary but it'd be fun for shits and giggles and useful communication. Playing European times a good while into the night.
