Thanks to streaming services I am so inundated with shows and movies that even if they don't have the thing I'm looking to watch there's almost always some other thing I've been looking for and I'll just watch that and wait for what I was looking for to get picked up.

Capitalism owns, if companies can't figure out how to get my money from my hands then that's on them. Steam killed game piracy, it's more convenient to play by the rules now. Same with music streaming. TV shows haven't quite figured it out yet, sometimes things go missing from Amazon or Netflix and lmao at buying physical media are you loving kidding me, you just shift the convenience to piracy making the most sense I am a shitposter on the go I don't have time for this

I have 3 of them just for my movie collection (less than 10% porn) streaming seems great now, but when the nuclear apocalypse comes I'll have the last laugh

LOVE LOVE SKELETON posted:why aren't hard drives getting bigger faster? i'm pushing this 1TB and i have so much more porn and music to hoard. they are though? also focus is getting SSDs bigger and cheaper, M.2 SSDs are pretty new and cool so I'm waiting for those to come down in price a bit. there isn't much need for huge 100 TB platter hds, though those are still growing, when you can pretty much buy a bunch of 3 TBs for reasonable cheap and stick 4 of em in a computer no problem. there isn't that much porn/music in the world to fill that poo poo up, or maybe i'm just not goony enough. Xaris posted:i hope it's like that episode of twilight zone except for books you're sitting alone in the basement and then the power goes out forever and your glasses break. but, there was time now! it takes me like a year to fill up a HD (it took my entire childhood to fill up the first 1TB, but things have accelerated). way I see it, if I'm streaming something I am uesing the same amount of bandwidth as torrenting. but I save on bandwidth if I ever watch anything twice, and I don't have to worry about shows disappearing because of stupid rights negotiations

its not even about the money. i support the free exchange of information on principle. if we give in to copyright, aka corporate censorship, we will never get a manned Mars mission in my lifetime. Academic/science piracy is actually more ethical and moral than paying journals at this point.
