is maggott the worst X-Man character? hard to think of any that are.

If Maggot were the worst of the X-Men, the X-Men would be pretty good.

Like I'd say at the very least, Bamfs collectively are the worst X-Men character.

nightcrawlers look and power are cool. man the way you all talk i'm giong to be super sad when I read x-men comics.

Modern X-Men are a bit of a rollercoaster of quality but I'd say it's overall still good. The glory days are over but you got books like Wolverine and the X-Men, X-Factor, New Mutants, etc and currently ongoing books like All-New Wolverine (probably my 2nd favorite Marvel book) and Old Man Logan that are really good.

They rarely talk about it, but yup. He's Mystique's biological son, she's her adoptive daughter. They didn't grow up together I don't think so it doesn't really affect much.

Full disclosure: I like the X-Men a lot, especially the ones with the weirder mutations. Eye lazers is pretty straightforward, Wolverine isn't really complicated he just has a giant list of mutations, but guys like Maggot are cool cause they have a power that seems useless, can be really useful if used creatively, and just have a lot of weirdness to how they work.

Have you read Morrison's New X-Men?

:v: I've read a bit of it once and I've been meaning to get back to it, but my backlog of books I own is huge and I heavily suspect once I start reading Morrison's NXM I'll probably fall even more behind reading the physical books I own but haven't read yet.

Aphrodite posted:

Wolverine technically only has the 1 mutation. He has the dumb mutant wolf-like offshoot mutation.

I'd say he technically still has 2 because I don't see how regenerating fits in with being a wolf, but for everything else it's fair to say it falls under "being a wolf-man" in comics-logic. A wolf with three retractable miniswords that come out of his hands.

Yeah. whether it's coincidence or whether that artist was involved in the writing/plotting side of things, their departure is about the time the book ran out of plot and it just kinda fucks around like it's stalling for time. Rat Queens is going on haiatus and it definitely needs it, although I'm like 70% sure it won't come back :ohdear:.

His dad wasn't a mutant and he looked like a wolfman too, so that might not be a mutation.

He was born in rural Alberta, if you told me mutated wolf-men with bone swords growing out of their hands were common there I'd believe you.

I like Iceman. Cyclops has his moments but overall is a mess. The little kid versions of Cyclops, Iceman, and Jean are all great. Little Beast is okay but not too thrilled. Little Warren is garbage.

All-New X-Men has the best chance to be the only good X-Men team book. As long as it doesn't have little Warren, Wolverine (until Hopeless learns to write her), Pickle the Bamf, decide what he wants to do with Oya and Genesis, don't have too much little Beast, decide on an overarching plotline that ties the book together...

Well when I put it like that the X-Men sound like they're in a pretty bad place right now :v:. For the record I do like X-Men, even current ongoing books.

I'm a huge Peter David fan, but I think he's fallen off albeit not as bad as everyone else. I did enjoy All New X-Factor more than the end of regular X-Factor, but his current Spider-Man 2099 doesn't compare to the original.

Yeah, while All-New X-Factor sold terribly, it was my first introduction to Peter David's work and I really enjoyed it. Afterwards I went back and read X-Factors Volume 1 and 2 and liked them too. But Spider-Man 2099 I just haven't seen that same spark I saw in his X-Factors.

I'd say David doesn't belong on either list, and he's just a good writer with a current book that doesn't hold up to their past stuff, from what we've seen so far.

Yeah, a new X-Factor book these days would be amazing. It sucks the Polaris/Quicksilver stuff probably will never get developed/picked up again now that that they're not not half-siblings anymore but the X-Men need a good team book and none of the characters from X-Factor (save for Quicksilver) are up to anything.

As of Bunn's Magneto solo series, yeah, she's still his daughter.

(Also I just realized that I was wrong when I said Quicksilver was the only X-Factor member who had a book: Monet is also busy but I'd easily take Uncanny X-Men losing her for a hypothetical X-Facor book. UXM's art is atrocious and there is no way for the writing to save it)

On the one hand, I get giving people free FCBD copies of Suicide Squad to promote the Suicide Squad film that's coming up. On the other, I still don't get why it's the #1 for Suicide Squad Vol 4 (aka the really good one /s) instead of New Suicide Squad, which is at least the first issue of the current ongoing series.

Did everyone have a great Free Comic Book Day? I was wearing a Batman costume, and marinated in my own sweat for seven and a half hours, but it was worth it. People don't care if your costume is a little lovely, they're just happy to take pictures with Batman. We also had the Detroit Ghostbusters, and I got to fulfill my dream of wearing a replica proton pack.

I went to two stores yesterday; one store was Alleycat Comics in Chicago and had two people dressed up as Daredevil and Elektra (the Netflix Daredevil costumes) which was cool. Both their costumes looked good.

It also had a dude sitting down next to the the Marvel TPB section reading through at least 2 TPBs. Real cool dude, take advantage of the larger-than-usual crowd to block 1/3rd of one of the Big Two shelves :/.

I forgot to grab Civil War #0 at the first store, and Alleycat was all out when I went so I sadly will not get to see the exciting beginnings of the new Marvel event I will be ignoring.

Riddler would have the risk of him deciding to totally screw up a job because he had to give Batman a fair chance to solve a riddle to stop him. Like you can't just in and out rob a bank in 30 seconds, you have to set up elaborate traps and pray the world's greatest detective can't solve Riddler's riddle.

Calendarman would be okay but he'll have you working holidays all the time.

Depends on the version of Anarky. I haven't read much with Anarky but I remember reading that his creator, Alan Grant became a free-market fetishist (Libertarian) and so Anarky also turned into one, while earlier he was more of a leftist anarchist-socialist. The former would be unbearable, the latter would be the best option.

Earth 2 Anarky from what I've seen of him is decent.

So it comes down to whether or not he pays better than retail.

You would also get a lot of extra holidays to make up for the ones you lose working, in that you'd get to take off any day that doesn't have a major holiday Calendarman is trying to do something on. So I'd say even if he paid retail you might still end up with more vacation days :v:.

You know what I find really amusing and sad (for DC) about this Captain America thing is that somehow Marvel has taken what is an obvious shorter term story point and twist and it has completely overshadowed DC who on the same day basically just made the most controversial change to their comics imaginable by bringing Watchmen into the main DC Universe. DC's biggest gamble in years and it's getting completely overshadowed.

I hadn't considered that the CA reveal was specifically planned to coincide with the release of Rebirth, but in hindsight it makes total sense and is brilliant. Over on Reddit, after some early excitement for Rebirth, /r/comicbooks was basically overrun with Captain America posts by midday, and today still has way more Captain America posts than Rebirth. Not an objective metric but it sure felt like Captain America overshadowed Rebirth hard on Reddit once people started reading the rest of their books.

Well Rebirth was spoiled something like four days ago. The release of the actual comic book is pretty insignificant, honestly. It's barely even a story despite being 80 pages long.

True. I had figured there'd be enough people who kept themselves away from spoilers that it'd still be huge, but it's still a totally spoiled comic vs a twist ending with little build/teasing/spoiling.

New 52 Constantine is bi? That's cool (I knew he he was bi in Hellblazer, I just assumed that got quietly swept under the table when he got integrated into the main universe). Also didn't know Deadpool was ever written as bi.

The DC-You Constantine had a pretty major subplot/later main plot about Constantine and his boyfriend. Deadpool has never been written as actually going out with guys and I don't think it's ever explicitly come up in comics. I think all it has going for it is some writers have said they consider Deadpool bi (and Ryan Reynolds has said that's how he sees Deadpool), there may be some random lines in books that imply Deadpool might be into dudes, but in comics his only romantic interests are in women.
