I don't think it would necessarily work out that way. Hispanics are a much more diffuse voting block than black voters, and I don't think picking a Latino VP in itself is enough to create a permanent voting block.

This is spot on. Anyone who thinks OMG Castro = Latinos become democrats forever is engaging in the same sloppy identity poitics thinking that Republicans engage in (which leads to poo poo like Rubio thinking he can win latinos). If Hillary picks Castro, and that's something of a big if because he has quite a few negatives, then it'll be for reasons beyond young/latino.

One thing that hasn't been talked about much in the media is how, despite estimates of the US becoming a majority-minority in the upcoming decades, there will be more and more latinos assimilating into white culture and voting accordingly.

Yep whiteness is a fluid construct and white people will just expand its definition just like they did in the past with the Irish, the Germans, the Italians, the Greeks, the Slavs, the Russians, etc.etc.

In 2050 bored history students will look back in bewilderment that we ever considered latinos brown just like we're bewildered at the idea of "black Irish."
