Tom Holland was my favorite part of the movie and I'm super hype for Spider-Man: actually a stupid dork this time Sounds like his Spider sense is more in line with Daredevils powers than just feeling vibrations and poo poo around him. I think that's a cool take. Giant Man got spoiled for me by a drat Lego set

Toxxupation posted:Rescue is an awesome concept, Gwyneth Paltrow is a good actress, and the MCU needs more genuine female superheroes anyway. Scarlet Witch is literally the only one that exists so far (Black Widow is as much a genuine superhero as Clint Barton is), and that's embarrassing. Especially considering that the MU has a boatload of awesome female superheroes from which to pick. Most of Marvels female heroes' film rights belong to other studios though. Cloak and Dagger is getting a series (I think?) so there's one and She-Hulk is, honestly, probably a bit too hard to shoehorn into the MCU. We're getting a Captain Marvel movie and Marvel half-owns the rights to Spider-Man so we could get that whole crew now but what other big name ladies are there in Marvel that aren't part of the X-Men?

How would you do She-Hulks origins in the MCU? Banners blood already killed a Stan Lee, why must we continue this senseless irradiated blood-based killing

rantmo posted:That She-Hulk is not already announced for a Netflix series is a profound failure on the part of everyone involved in the MCU/TV production office. Jessica should start as opposing counsel on Daredevil and spin off from there. Given Jessica Jones and Daredevil both being sorta focused on at least three law firms, it's crazy she didn't get name dropped anywhere

X-O posted:The biggest hurdle to getting a lot of these female heroes is also the biggest hurdle for new male and female superheroes in comics. They're all either derivative of other heroes or are legacy characters. The original ones that don't fall into that category, or that are derivative of characters that don't matter like Tigra, Moondragon, Thundra, White Tiger, Songbird, Miss America, or Elsa Bloodstone is that these characters really couldn't really make it as solo characters in comics much less in movies. That's not to say there's not a way to make them work in movies, but there's no incentive to try from business point of view. You don't make movies out characters that barely make waves in the comics. That's why you're also never going to see a Nova, Red Wolf, Starbrand, Spider-Man 2099 movie or solo movies for characters like Hawkeye and Vision. Hawkeyes family life on a farm is bullshit and deprived me of a Hawkguy Netflix series and I'll never forgive Marvel for that

Wanda is in DoFP iirc. I think there's a lot of characters that are in rights-limbo. It's not like the contracts say "fox films owns the movie rights to reed Richards, Susan storm, Ben Grimm, Doctor doom, " etc, it's more like "fantastic four and related characters" So when it came to Wanda and Pietro, the contract said X men characters, Marvel argues they're Avengers not XMen, and the eventual legal compromise is "okay but they can't be mutants" So with someone like Kang, it's not that Marvel doesn't have the rights, it's that someone else might have the rights possibly until Marvel tries to take them to task on Kang being an Avengers villain and not a Fantastic Four villain

Kal-L posted:Isn't their whole film division in a bad situation right now? I could see them do the Venom film, find out that it underperforms/bombs, and then sell the rights back to Marvel so they can use the money for other projects/pay their debts/give their executives a bonus for being so great. More than halfway through 2015, Sony barely is hanging on at the box office. The studio has fallen to seventh place in domestic market share — behind the five other majors and Lionsgate — with a mere $247 million in grosses, just 3.74 percent of the total pie. Globally, Sony has made a weak $564 million. (By comparison, leader Universal Pictures has pulled in $1.8 billion domestically and more than $5 billion worldwide.) As its peers all have released at least one film that has earned $300 million worldwide, Sony’s highest-grossing movie, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, topped out at only $104 million. Its latest attempt to create a homegrown tentpole, Adam Sandler's Pixels, isn’t reversing that downward trajectory.

SonicRulez posted:I don't know why "Do a flip" is so funny to me. Maybe because he actually does it. Superheroes were introduced to civilians of the MCU basically by Avengers 1 and all that wild poo poo going down and aliens and gods and flying metal snakes and poo poo 8 years later, there's a little folk hero who posts videos of himself jumping around and stopping bike theives on Youtube and he's just a cute little fad you show your friends, all "Hey look that Egoraptor animator guy is making Let's Plays now he says some funny stuff sometimes, check it out man" And then you run into Egoraptor on the street and just like "Hey are you that grumpy guy from youtube? Say something funny" And it's the same thing. Captain America is a WWII hero frozen in time who runs around with a green monster and the god of thunder and here's some fifth tier superhero who jumps good, and you see him on the street and you say "Oh hey it's that guy from youtube who jumps around and stuff. Do a flip!" And it's just this wonderful little bit of character work / world building all in one, he really is just this small-town folk hero who people only know because he has a youtube channel with a few thousand subscribers And then he becomes a big deal after the whole DC thing, I guess. Pete's probably getting that ad money now. Actually Peter monetizing videos of Spider-man on YouTube is a hilarious take on him being a semi-professional photojournalist in the modern age.

I really don't care for the design of Venom in the film 1. Venom is supposed to have a wicked crazy Underbite at all times 2. Venom kind of desparately needs some sort of white design across his chest to keep him from looking like a big black blob. Doesn't need to be the black suit Spider-man thing, or any of the comic chest pieces, but he really needs something to make him look more distinct Especially if the villain is a slightly more gray Venom with no details

After a stealth mission by Ant-Man and Doctor Strange to steal the infinity Gauntlet, and a long, drawn out, epic battle between the remaining Avengers and Thanos, Iron Man and Cap stand victories amongst the smoldering rubble of Thanos's Planet "Well, Rogers, we did it. " "Yeah Stark, I guess we still make a pretty good team. Time to set things right and bring everyone back" Tony and Steve both shove their hands into the Infinity Gauntlet, to draw on its power and reverse Thanos's snap The music cuts out, comically "Hey Cap, you feel anything? I expected something to happen here" "Well do you have it all the way in?" Audience laughs "Alright hold on hold on let me try my other hand" Tony awkwardly switches which hand is inside the gauntlet while Captain America looks annoyed "Alright, there we go. Take 2" The music starts to swell again "Uh hey Tony I'm not feeling so hot" "Steve what are you talking abo--" Captain America and Iron Man were but mere human beings and could not wield the power of the Infinity Gauntlet. Both of them turn to ash. Roll credits. All future Marvel films were actually just to make people think Avengers 4 would return to the status quo and are immediately binned.
