Some bad news, the translators of the Mermaid manga are putting it on hold. So instead, I present a webtoon I read recently! It's called Michelin Star. It's about a Korean chef (middle guy in the image) who wants to earn Korea's first Michelin Star. Except it's not, it's actually a drama between a French cuisine restaurant and the corporation that's trying to buy it out. The writing takes a few chapters to find its feet; it doesn't know exactly what kind of story it wants to write at the beginning but it settles quickly and becomes the story about a failing restaurant finding its feet again, and its struggles against the plans of a corporation that wants it to fail. There's lots of drama and twists, and honestly it reminds me of stuff like Romance of the Three Kingdoms with the kind of scheming going on. The second part in particular was a really fun read, and the art is really good. The food porn? Exquisite. The artist worked with an actual chef (the inspiration for the main character), showing off their dishes and there's even a small side chapter with the photos of the dish. It ends up being similar to Shoukugeki no Soma, with the chefs coming up with intriguingly creative dishes, but more grounded and less insane reactions. Before I link to it I'm going to give one big warning. This cannot be emphasized enough. The series only has 62 chapters translated so far (Part 1 and 2). Part 3 does exist, but it's untranslated, and from my research Tapastic was the original translator and the project seems to be dropped a few years ago, so don't expect any new translations anytime soon. This, unfortunately, can be a problem if you care about the story because Part 2 ends on the biggest loving cliffhanger imaginable. It's ridiculous. In any case, you can find the translation here. There is one silver lining: as I mentioned before, Part 3 *does* exist, just untranslated.   Got noodles for lunch today! I went to a shop called Nudo and got the BBQ Pork with soup (there was also a Pork with BBQ sauce option...???) The shop was in a food court mall, but despite that there was a little display where the chef came out and actually made the noodles in front of the customers! It was pretty neat (and also loud as he kept slapping the noodles against the counter.) Pics are my order, I don't know if it's hard to tell but the noodles are actually slightly uneven from the chef's handiwork. As for the taste, the pork was solid, and all clumped up. It was basically a chunk of pork partially sliced so that the slices were dangling but still held together. Sadly the only vegetables were the cabbage, green onions and parsley. I would have liked some more variety. Oh well! The broth was average, and not overly salty, thankfully. It was thinner than I would have liked, basically just boiled water with flavour. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't piping hot, though! Usually when I get asian noodles the soup is piping hot and I can barely enjoy it. The noodles were very chewy, and as far as I could tell didn't taste noticeably strange. Overall not bad, although it's more expensive than the stuff I usually get (there's this vietnamese place nearby that sells BBQ Pork Banh Mi at 5$ for a 10 inch, it's a steal!!!) There was also a store near the Nudo that has a Chinese noodle dish (the kind where the noodles are flatter like in that Ajikko chapter), I'll have to try it sometime.

A girl halfway between life and death wants to eat one last dish (as a spirit) before moving on to the afterlife. Will her bratty childhood friend be able to help?!

The art is great, has a light and fluffy feel to it. The last chapter makes me want to make some french toast now. In related isekai food manga, Isekai Nobu just recently updated! Isekai Shokudou has also started getting a bunch of scans up (This is the manga that inspired the anime of the same name last summer.) It used to only have a few scattershot chapters uploaded from what I can tell but now chapters 1-14 are up (16 is up to, but 15 doesn't seem to be anywhere yet.) Finally, I've been reading a slice of life "people in a virtual MMO" manga where the main character takes up cooking and arts and crafts as his primary skills. Cooking isn't the main focus but it comes up a few times, and the VR world itself is charming and filled with some adorable creatures. The only thing I'd warn about is a recurring group of PCs that obsess over the main character's younger sisters, but it doesn't go anywhere weird. Finally got around to binging through Shinmai Shimai no Futari Gohan (aka the one about two stepsisters and food) thanks to a new chapter. And for anyone who didn't know (I only remembered when I was browsing the latest anime listings), Izekaya Nobu's anime started! The episodes are quite short (15 minutes and only about 10 minutes are dedicated to Nobu), but it's suitable for the amount of content. The other 5 minutes are a live action segment related to the theme of the episode; the first episode's segment is a cooking segment with a chef.

A new Yakuza House Husband chapter is up! The most notable thing is that it got nominated for an award, and the scanlators have included instructions on how to vote for it at the end of the chapter if you want to help (one of a Niconico/Twitter/Facebook account is required). There are several other interesting mangas nominated including the Fenrir Isekai/Tondemo Skill one, if you want to support that instead.
