Slate Action posted:These people know what's up: Yup, the Dem heavyweights like Obama and Biden have been largely silent this primary season, aside from a little bit of clowning on Trump incidentally. When the primaries are wrapped up and they come out swinging you'll see an effect in the polls. Clinton is and was very smart to stick as close to Obama as possible; distancing yourself would be the worst decision in this cycle.

Five months of nonstop clowning on Trump via serious, well-considered statements of policy. Hail Satan.

trapped mouse posted:Something like this? There's a lot more people who like Hillary than a brief browse of the internet would suggest. Partially this is because her strongest demographics (low-income people, minorities, and women) are exactly the demographics that are most poorly represented online, and partly that's because those demographics tend to get shouted down a lot. The prevailing narrative for a long time was "Hillary only has cynical oligarchs and deluded sheep following her, nobody actually likes her," which is preposterous on the face of it. But if you wish to position yourself as a follower of the Only Logical Candidate, you have to minimize the real reasons some people support your opponent. And of course if you live in the Right Wing Outrageosphere, it's simply impossible to grasp the concept of someone legitimately desiring obvious Satanic vagina-witch Shrillary Killaton as president.

I don't think this is exactly true-- she came across that way in 2008 because she was up against Barack Obama, but she's really quite a decent speaker. I think when she gets on a topic she feels really and truly passionate about is when she shines, partially because her struggle this cycle has been to demonstrate her humanity without coming across as "weak" or "shrill." Debates, now, she's stellar at.

fits my needs posted:I don't know why the Evangelical Christians still need to be catered to? It seems like they have less power and I am sure there are many gays that the FYGM policy will appeal to. The gay community in general is so traumatized from decades of Republican hatred that it'll take more than just removing the hate from the platform to get them to go GOP. Granted, that's a good first step, but it'd take active support for gay rights (under an "equal opportunity, marriage is the heart of family values and we support all americans being able to form families" sort of reasoning I guess) plus at least a generation to get gay voters on the side of the Republicans. In all likelihood, most LGBT people, myself included, who came of age and political consciousness in the current political era are completely at odds with the Republican Party for the foreseeable future.

I don't suppose anyone's been able to find a comprehensive debunking of the various vote-rigging conspiracy theories revolving around the Democratic primary? I find that people who believe wholeheartedly in them cling to a sort of gish gallop strategy, wherein whenever you challenge their facts on one supposed instance of vote rigging, they shift to another instance and argue that with so many allegations, it must be true! I've found Snopes articles debunking a few of the allegations (some of the stuff that's claimed about New York, or the Indiana thing where the news station accidentally aired a test graphic), but nothing more broad, other than general "the primary wasn't rigged" articles and thinkpieces.

DemeaninDemon posted:You show them the actual vote totals, polls, gotv articles, and whatever other facts you can find. If they think that wasn't real votes then they're probably full of poo poo so it's ok to outright call them out on their bullshit. The people I'm thinking of have resorted to "there's video evidence of people whiting out ballots marked for Bernie Sanders," so I'm at a bit of the loss re: logic and reason I'm afraid.
