<click> <click> What is it with this dancing?! Bouncing around like fools... I would have thought my own kind at least would understand the seriousness of our Adventurer's Guild!

I just realized that the boss of Rock Star encapsulates a lot of the criticisms we're talking about. Almost 75% of the fight is just WAITING. There are phase transitions in modern Kirby games but those don't really serve as an obstacle like the beginning of that fight does.

And yet, in the same episode I was impressed by the shading when Kirby was under the diamond ship.

Yeah, this particular boss (who I think is named Pix or something like that), is probably one of the worst in the game (if not the series as a whole) if only for that reason (it's a lot more fun to fight in Planet Robobot though as there it basically functions as a mechanical version of Ado/Adeline). Also, why did they decide to put a time limit on Kirby's flight in this game but not any of the others?

Sorry for the lack of update yesterday, folks - wasn't feeling so hot and just kinda ground through some editing and slept a lot.

Yeah, this game has a LOT of that. Nearly every boss in the game either has a "waiting" or "chasing" segment to it that, combined with the agonizingly slow "fast speed" of the game, feels like it takes an eternity.

We have a winner. What a terrible reason, too. At least, like Larryb said, the Robobot version was better (by virtue of grifting Adeleine's shtick).

So I've heard! I need to remember to try that while we're still playing this...

Ahh, that would make sense. Apparently you can end up inadvertently getting the final (surprise) boss card at the end of any level, even the very first one, thus thoroughly spoiling the surprise. Whoops!

Anywho, let's learn about that time (four days ago) that Lindsay accidentally dosed herself! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LINDSAY.

Something about the end of this year has just given us so many draaaaaaaagging games. The N64 was usually sort of slow-paced, but this is a little tough to muscle down at times.

Luckily that's probably the hardest crystal shard in the game to get. I remember the rest of them being pretty simple.

Hey guys! Apologies for the lack of posts over the holidays -- I had the worst WiFi at my disposal for the last four days, so uploading was agonizing and it made working on the Christmas special (unrelated to The Dreamy Let's Play) practically impossible. We've had two often-remixed songs in the latest batch of episodes. First is the ever-popular Factory Inspection from the last level of Shiver Star, which has always been touted as a favorite. Most recently it got some love in Planet Robobot. (And how could it possibly not, with the mechanical theming?) The second is the music for the Map Screen of Ripple Star, which gets changed into a less hype-ish, more calming version for the rest room of The Arena in Super Star Ultra and beyond. I feel like they're some of the last tracks that get the same kind of popular treatment that things like Gourmet Race and Float Islands do.

Aw man, that's really cool! I'm still thinking after The Dreamy Let's Play (and possibly before we wrap it up with "The Nightmare Let's Play"?) I'm gonna want to do a video talking about the overall Kirby franchise soundtrack, since it borrows from itself so constantly.

As for updates, after a literal ball injury over the new year, I've been very bad about updating this thread. Rather than spread it out artificially, I'm just gonna blow my wad right in this post, it'll bring everything back up to speed, so apologies on the singular spammy post. But yeah, let's get this poo poo back on track.

Along with a music highlight video/series, I think I'd like to do the same for abilities, so if it doesn't come up in a sensible way, we'll definitely loop back around to it.

Really impressed by that one-try against Zero Two. Getting the pattern right for me was really tricky. I learned that you can shoot down his wings if you move to the side during the eye-shooting phase and that helps a little bit.

Impressive, you guys had an easier time with the collection aspect of this game than I thought you would.

Since they ditched the multiple ending aspect the only other games where you have to go out of your way for collectibles are Squeak Squad and Mass Attack (where eventually you'll reach a point where you literally cannot progress any further in the game without them) also the 3DS games to a lesser extent where you need to collect a set number of items in each world in order to unlock the boss of that area. In every other Kirby game besides those the collectibles are completely optional aside from unlocking bonus content.

Maybe, but I'm convinced the D-Pad is cool enough to 100% the games anyway.

Oh wow, how did we not think of that? I think I was just zeroing in (har har) on doing as much damage as possible, I didn't even think about trying to knock out his wings. Good to know!

Odds are there will at least be an attempt, though it may depend from game to game what the reward is, if we'll actually do it. (Mass Attack is a good example of a game that is just downright cruel with its 100% standards)

High likelihood we'll at least shoot for it in each game (until or unless we deem it totally insane like with our latest game addition)

Probably not as aside from the Meta Knight campaign Planet Robobot only has one ending. The code cubes just unlock the boss of each area plus an extra stage or two if you get all of them in a world (same goes for the Sun Stones in Triple Deluxe). Also good luck with Tilt 'N Tumble as this game can be annoying enough to get through just playing it straight.

I just want to note that apparently, 20 minutes from now, they're gonna speedrun Tilt 'n' Tumble at AGDQ... with a Gamecube and instead of a controller, a DDR pad. That might be the solution you're looking for, ricdesi.

Oooooooh, I like that! It means that Kirby leans in the direction you do, not bad at all! My only concern there is that's a digital input instead of a more analog, tilt-friendly mechanic. But it's definitely a solid alternative...

Quite true. The last time I enjoyed an Let's Play with a webcam was Vicas' run of Super Mario 64 where he played with his feet. In that case and this, the humor comes from playing a game in a way that neither god nor man intended. Bravo.

Ohhhhhhhh, that makes much more sense. Makes the A button a shitload easier to hit, at the very least. So we're not the only ones doing the "tilt the GameCube" thing, at least!
